I’ve now been quoted £240 plus vat for the job on correx, trying to find out if the customer in question has a genuine quote or he’s trying to play companies against each other, every time I ask for proof of quote he avoids the qustion, he also wont answer if the quote includes vat or not., he’s told me the name of the company but doubt they would like me phoning and asking! 🙄

Thanks for the reply David and Colin 🙂

I wish I did have a laminator would make things a lot easier! but unfortunately at this point i cant afford one.

I was thinking about MD3, im just that used to using MD5 i forgot all about it to be honest! 😳

hes told me hes had a quote for just under £400 for the lot from another local company, so looks like it will be a no go as how ever i do it, it wont be worth it. subbing out the work to trade printers ive been quoted £400 and hes asking me to go lower

  • Thanks guys 🙂

so ive ordered the new style pump with the fitting kit, new mist sponges, new wipers, new wiper scraper and new cap tops, should be here at the start of the week i hope.

in the mean time i gave it a good clean and almost got it back to how it should be, but with one exception..

the cyan was firing 90% black?

a bit more cleaning and i got it a bit better

so thought i would do a test print to see how it would do and thought maybe it just needs the inks to be pumped through a bit, it printed a lot better than the last test print i did (previous post)

after it finished printing it performed a self clean, so after it had finished i did a test to see if there was any more cyan coming through, and the answer is, non what so ever! came out black and was firing less.

does anybody know what this would point to? bad pump? cap tops?

sorry for the long post :lol1:

thanks Steve, will order some cps from digiprint then, my engineer told me about the problems with the pumps, does anyone have a link or part number for the new style pump? also i cant seem to find the sponge pads above the ink waste bottle, where could i get these? 🙂

how do i pull the ink through manually?

i was looking on the digiprint website and seen roland cap tops for very cheap, but have also seen them on uk websites for over triple the price (look identical)

as much as i would like to call my engineer i simply dont have the money for him to do any work on the printer as yesterday i got laid off from my job i was using to fund my new business. so would like to do as much as possible myself

thought as much, put it into cleaning mode and the black cap top looks clogged up and full of ink, so will order new caps and ive ordered foam swabs to give the head a clean.

also the sponge under the heads (in front of the wipers?) is solid and useless, where can i get a new one from?

    wait for it…

    £150! 😮

i laughed and said you must be joking right? you need to be adding another digit on the end of that!

his reply was, but you can get the material on ebay for £50..

ive used it, it beats cutting on vehicles thats for sure!

cant compare it to knifeless tape as ive never used it, but it does the job if used properly, but will never give a perfectly straight line and can sometimes leave a jagged edge

thanks for the advice Martin 🙂

yes i thought it would still need laminating but i know the customer is on a budget and was looking to keep costs down. i will give them a price for both but i will try and recommend laminating it so it lasts longer and will benefit in the long run 🙂

i also prefer matte too i think it looks a 100x better than gloss most of the time 🙂

well ive bought signlab 9.1 should be hear towards the end of the week 🙂

im using the trial for now and im trying to trace around an image, the image has a white square background that i need to get rid of as it just traces the square. i watched a tutorial that showed me how to use gimp to remove the background, did this and thought it had worked. but then when you trace it again it still traces the box around the image!

    and ideas?

yes have tried switching it on and off with no joy, it moves side to side but only a few mill.

i have a technician coming out Wednesday but i cant really afford to wait this long to get it up and running.

also another problem i have come across is the versaworks software supplied with it does not recognise the printer, its a uniform cadet sp1400c, is this software not compatible with the printer?

the printer is a uniform cadet 540, i am getting a small unit in the week, i would have liked to have it at home to begin but its too long to get around my landing as its a tight corner to go through the door 🙄

software is versaworks, and the machine has been stood since about christmas i think, i presume its been drained but unsure? 🙄

didnt think about installation, thought it would be pretty simple to set up, but ive never owned a printer before only plotters so never set one up before.

are they difficult to set up and need an engineer to come out and do it or is it straight forward enough to do myself?

thanks Stafford will try them now

    quote Kevin Flowers:

Products on the lens or light source that reduce the light’s intensity or change its colour are now a reason for failure

so what if they do not reduce the light intensity or change the lights colour? i have fly eyes tint on my head lights, do any of you know what fly eyes actually is? it does not reduce my light output whatsoever and does not change the colour of my lights

  • josh morris

you couldnt be further from the truth

it is not against the law to tint rear lights as long as the reflector is not tinted (hence why i only tint lights with out reflectors)

i am not talking about headlights here i am talking about rear lights,

for front lights i use a product called fly eye, which is road legal and mot friendly, it doesnt reduce light output by any significant amount (why its legal and an mot pass)

  • josh morris

February 20, 2014 at 6:35 pm in reply to: window/light tinting

i only tint lights with separate reflectors,

i have done many front, rear and fog lights and i only do so if the person knows the laws etc and understand some mot garages may fail them, i will only do it if they fully understand this.

i have done quite a few and have about 6 or 7 customers waiting for it to be done when lamin-x uk website is back up and running

but if the light is shining through brightly and can be clearly seen in the day then its not reducing the light or changing the colour then its no reason to be failed. thats why a lot of Mot station will pass it. front fails as it can alter the beam pattern of the light which is a fail.

and if people declared it and the insurance know about it then they are fully covered 😉

  • josh morris

    Member

rear lights you can tint smoke black and still pass mot

window tint film is not designed to stretch it is designed to shrink, youtube window tint shrinking and you will see what i mean.

for fog lights and rear lights i use lamin-x, its quite expensive but it is good stuff, for front lights you can get away with a light smoke or fly eye tint is okay, makes the front lights look darker from a distance and is mot friendly but doesnt look great up close

if i won the auction total spend on the machine could be between £3k and £3.5k thought that was an okay price but if these machines dont fetch that much then maybe not. but then again id be safe in the knowledge that the machine is fully functioning 🙂

thanks David, so say around the £2000 mark then for a ball park figure of getting the machine fully functioning with what needs doing to it. so how much would you think is worth paying for the machine without the work done? i dont really know what these fetch second hand as ive never really looked for one.

it may not need much being done to but the guy running the auction doesnt know much about it so im sceptical of the condition
