I have kind of sorted the problem. I dug out my old laptop and connect everything up and hey presto!!! it all worked.

Old technology, seems to save the day again.

    Thanks for looking.

    Kev,
Thanks for that. I am doing another on at the moment, and it picked it up first time.

When it gets is wrong, it seems to really get it wrong. In a 30" width print, it can be 2 inches away from the second mark. And it seems to repeat this misalignment time after time. The all of a sudden, it gets it right, perfectly.

    It is real strange.

    Have you laminated the vinyl?

If not the inks make the edge of the vinyl curl pretty often.

I have been running 4.1.1 since the beginning of the year with no problem. The error occurs on the printer itself. The printer just stops with that error. The first time it happened was Friday evening, the second time this afternoon.

I upgraded the firmware for the machine 2 weeks ago when the update was released.

Nothing on my setup has changed, and I have looked in the Used Guide for the VS540 and there is no mention of an Error 15. I was wondering if someone had come across this error before..

    Nick,

Thanks for that. It seems that the snow was left on the vans for days. A number of the customers said they did not use de icer on the vans.

It is strange that the graphics on the flat bonnets does not seem to be affected, its only the ones on the slope. I was wondering if anyone has any idea why the vinyl is affected on the angle and not on the flat of the bonnets.

We have a few guys in Dublin doing vans for €90 and then go round the sign shops asking for all offcuts!!! I even got a text from one of them looking for business.

All my offcuts of a reasonable size go to the local school’s art department’s.

I know it is off topic, but I know you frustration David.

OK guys, I have read the toing & froing, the pros & cons of the ‘Price It Sign Guide’

As a result I would like to know how to actually go about getting one.

Do I purchase one from this site?

Pretty sure we used 4 or 6 mm corri.
    Made sure flutes ran vertically.
    [/quote]

If the flutes run vertical, when you cut the board, you will be cutting across the flutes. Do you score the board rather than cut it?

Do you use an 8 x 4 board fut to 2 x 8 and then make them from that or what size original board do you use to cut down?

    Stuart,

What size Corri do you use to make these? What is the display area available?

Do you use 6mm or 10mm Corri for these?

    Regards,

The only thing with Corri ‘A’ board for use outside is their lack of weight and wind resistance.

They need to have sand bags holding them down.

By the time you have spent the time making one, the cost of the materials and the means of keeping on the ground, a much neater and slightly more costly solution is a budget swing sign.

That’s how I would read the costs anyway.

    Brian,

I don’t know of anyone in Ireland that does plastic ones. ‘Sign & Digital’ & ‘Digital Solutions’ in Dublin do some alternatives that may help.

Sorry the suggestions have not sorted the issue.

Just as a matter of interest, disks should have more that 30% free to be able to drfrag etc.

It does sound like it is Geek time. Sorry.

I have used Spirit FLEX on a few jobs, works great. Very simple to install and relatively inexpensive.

    I would bit the company.

Make sure you have on your invoice that title of goods does not transfer from you until paid in full.

In this way you keep the title for the goods if unpaid.

At least if they don’t pay you you are entitled to take back the signage you have made. In that way, you can get back some of the materials that may be of use on another job.

It is a difficult situation, but you need to bill them anyway. Make sure you have all correspondence from the customer so that you can show that the job,in it’s entirety was signed off but the customer.

It is sad that this type of situation appears to be happening more often as some sign companies undercut other companies, giving their product away for nothing.

Glad the customer will get their banner.

When you reinstall, make sure you delete the versaworks folder below program files as any residual stuff can leave you with the same problem.

    All the best with it.

    Shaun,

The only thing I can think of is that the metallic / white on the MT machine may need extra drying. I have some of the promo graphics from Roland using the metallic and it rubs off fairly easy. (without lamination of course)

    Simon,

What version of VersaWorks are you running now?

    What printer are you using?

What version of the VersaWorks Software were you running before the update?

I had a similar problem some time back. It was when I upgraded from VersaWorks 2.7 to version 3.0.2. VersaWorks ended up hanging and the machine would come to a stop with ‘now processing’ but never did anything further. I ended up getting a CD with version 3.2 from Roland and did a clean install from the CD. I removed VersaWorks through the Add Remove Programs in Windows. I then deleted the VersaWorks folder in the Program Files folder on the hard disk. I then did the clean install and I have upgraded since and it works fine.

If you have upgraded from very early versions through to date, it could be the way the updates have been applied. Roland could not give me a reason for this situationn but Iknowa guys had a similar a problem.

The Roland figures put the maximum speed for the VP540 at 13.8 sqm per hour, which is 149 sq ft per hour.

We paint out routed letters / graphics. Much better finish.

If we have a printed image to go on a routed foamex design, we print it and float it on with water to get the lineup correct.

    Garry,

I have seen one of the vans on the road so far.

I think the thing we all need to do is watch the speedo more now. As you say, we have been relatively unmolested as you could drive from one side of the country to the other and never see a speed trap.

It is a wake up call to us all.

The Garda web site has all the locations where vans can be placed, I have checked it out and it is a matter of remembering where to be especially vigilant.

    Al the best though.

I ran it through at Generic Banner 1 / Billboard.

It works out at about 23 sqm per hour. That works out at 247.5 sq ft.

For the first time I have been able to match the figures the manufacturers state in their sales materials.

    I have a CMYKCMYK.

I did that because I wanted the speed. Yesterday, I printed 3 x 6 meter x 1.2 meter banners. Each one took 19 minutes to print.

I have had this happen may times from Illustrator to VersaWorks.

It appears that some of the colours are outside the the colour range. Every time it has a exclamation mark next to the colour in the colour picker, then it does not recognize the CutContour line.

The way I have got round it is to Ctrl x (Cut) the CutContour line and rasterise the image. I then paste the CutContour back in to place and print it through VersaWorks and it cuts fine.

    See attached image.

    Robert,

What sort of ink / printer are you using. I use a Versacamm with the Roland MAX inks. They work well with the Kentemare material I am using at the moment (printing 2 while we speak). However as it is a coated material it can get dameged so I always laminate with deep crystal and the customers are always happy. We have done 400 or so on the Kentmare material, it is just that my supplier is suggesting I try the Hydrosol material.

    Thanks,

    Gavin,

I have been asked by my supplier of Kentmare Opaljet to try the Hydrosol material.

Can you let me know what what profile you use for the Hydrosol as well as temperatures.

Any issues I need to be aware of.

    Many thanks,

No these are the US Triangle Inks.

One of the sign boards I check out often has provided a wealth of info and many of the guys there have the Triangle MLD Inks on VersaCamm’s and Mimaki JS3’s.

I have a VersaCamm and I would like to go that extra stage further by converting to the Mild Solvent Inks for a couple of reasons,

    1) Cost, Roland cartridges are pretty steep when you consider to costs associated with the bulk systems.

    2) The MLD inks are have a greater abrasion tolerance than the MAX inks, which are good in their own right. I checked out some prints using the Triangle MLD inks while in the US recently.

    Thanks for the response.

Do you also sell the bulk feed systems for the VersaCamm SP 540 V?

Would it be possible to email me your price list etc.

Can you let me know how best to contact you so I can let you have my email address.

As the printer is CMYK, it lays down the colours based on the media being white.

I would print on the clear then using a laminator, lay white over the clear.

The white needs to have a clear adhesive so that the backing is white.

I have tried this on a couple of things and it turned out fine.
