    🙁

    I´m sorry I bothered you.

Well, no one suggested it might be that (not even you, sir) but still I managed to find the problem so I´m happy.

Ps. How often do you clean the strip?

Oh, and when it comes to cartridges, the printer is clever enough to let me know when that happens.

    No ghostlines anymore!

Still need to adjust the heads, but the main problem is away.

    Off to a new topic…

    Looks I got it fixed.

The encoder strip was so dirty, that it made the print heads spit all over not in the spitting tank (or what ever the name is).

Still some more testing to do but looks promising…

The joys of owning a printer I’m afraid. An engineer visit is usually expensive yes, but not as expensive as a big dead printer shaped paperweight.

Just talked to the engineer who knows Mutohs and he quoted 540 – 700€ for a 1 – 2 hour visit.

I think I´m gonna try to clean the electrical parts etc. and wish for the best.
This machine is so old that it woukd be crazy to pay fot it´s maintenance.

Is it possible that the printheads are just too worn?

I don´t want to believe that, because I replaced them ca. 2 years ago and I don´t print much.

I´ve tried many files, also many file types (jpg, eps, etc).
Only times they don´t appear is when I don´t use bi-directional print, but then the speed is very slow and also the quality is worse (?).

    clean as a whistle

And these marks are 90 degrees to the printhead movement.

There has to be some kind of a leak on printheads to cause this, or else it has to be software related.

SL 8 has no "print" section…

I don´t use SL 8 to make the grachics (I use Corel Draw x4) and I normally make them .eps files to print with Visual Production Manager.

These two files that I need to have printed asap are made with InDesign and the VPM will not even generate a preview.

Yesterday evening I found out that I can print some bitmaps but not all…

At times like these a lot of people / customers also think about the environment. Therefore I think it´s a good idea to reuse what ever you can. At least I try to do it.

Yes, I know it´s impossible to reproduce exact colours, that´s why I asked
    "as accurate as possible".
Meanwhile I´ve been playing with the colours on a pic and I´m quite happy with the outcome.
Naturally it´s not as original, neither was it meant to be, just wanted the blues to be blues not purple.

I´ll keep playing with this, prints on frosted do look nice on some occasions…

    Thanks.

Thanks Dave, but that´s not exactly what I´m after.

Let´s say there is a picture with different shades of blue and you print it on white vinyl and it comes out as it should.
If you print the same pic on frosted it gets a little on the purple side, don´t you think?
What do you do to make the blues come out right?

One way is naturally just to fiddle with the colours on your favourite software, but is there something precise to be done?

Ian, sounds like you´ve done this.
You say pre and post heater. In the early Rockhopper models it was like that, but the newer models came with direct heater (fixer) that is located right under the printheads, not before them like a pre heater. Which model do you mean?

Anyway, I thought there has to be a fuse, just didn´t find one when opened the cover. I´ll look again.
    Thanks.

Ok, located the fuse, changed it to a new one but unfortunately that didn’t help.

I don´t think that the fixer is like you described. I guess it comes with the metal parts up front. (Not sure though.)
I know that the front and back heaters are as you mentioned.

That´s not it. It prints the nozzle check okay, but seems like it doesn´t receive commands from pc. My guess is (for now) that it has to be either port problem or cable failure.

Normal vinyl isn’t a problem if you warm it up and peal it off.

The adhesives on sum stickers can be a pain.

The Zapper is also great for taking off double-sided tape left on when removing vehicle badges.

But like I said normal vinyls are easily removed warmed up.

Control W doesn´t help and the SP2 is installed and version is as you mentioned.
What do you mean by randomly? If you mean that does it disappear every time when zoomed, then no. If you mean does it do it once today and thirty times tomorrow, then no. If you mean does it do it forty times today and forty times tomorrow but not every time zoomed, then yes.

    To Chris:
Kind of the same here. On my older pc I had a demo of X4 and it worked just fine. But that one was without SP2, so can it be that? A bug on SP2?

I also was wondering if it was the graphics card, but after calling to three dealers (they all said it can´t be that, because all other programs are working fine) I started to look somewhere else.

    To Andy:
The file size is not the reason, it´s all the same even if I only have one outlined box in the middle of a page.

SP2 already installed, no change. (Or maybe it´s the SP2, I never tried X4 without it… Rather unlikely though).

    Ok John, I´ll be here…

    Oh, how old is it?
Also, don´t you guys use 110V power (we use 220V)?
Does it run with Windows XP and can it cut from CorelDraw (I now have CD12 and X3)?

Well John, now you just need to tell me how many £:s for the machine and how much for shipping it to Finland.
Meanwhile I´ll try to find more specifics on the thing…

    Let me know.

Google doesn´t give me anything on this.
Can you John tell me more about it?
