  • Recycling roll up banners??

Posted by Nick Minnery on July 11, 2014 at 9:00 am

We have a client, who last year had 3x rollup banners off us.

We made them in-house, buying the cassettes- the type that you stick your printed banner to then pull out the pin to retract it into the cassette.

Now, he’s asked if we can re-use those cassettes, for new banners. I personally think it would be a bit awkward to do.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Many thanks

    Nick

Hi they are re usable most people do . The plastic you attach to in the cassette can perish over time but takes a long while to do so. Just slice off the graphic where it joins the cassette and attach new one to the opposite side .

    As Jon says.

The only issue we had once was someone had used a thicker media which had sprained the top bar which in turn didn’t clamp our media properly. We ended up folding it double at the top.

Remember to insert something into the hole where you removed the pin from… it’s not fun winding the tension back on. 😳

If it’s a budget stand (that we originally supplied), we just use a new one, for the sake of a tenner, it saves us messing around and is nice simple and quick, and still make some profit.

I replace the graphics in these pull ups often. I mak sure I keep the key and not pass on to the client. Use the to lock the spring in place when then graphic is pulled out. Cut the old graphic off, double sided tape on the new graphic, then I use some magic tape over the join as extra security. Release the key and away you go. That takes 10 minutes longer than using a new one.
You just have to way up the cost of the replacement time against the cost of a new cassette.

I never replace. We buy those units for about 14 euros. Whenever asked I explain 90%of the cost is the printed section. A bit like reusing cortex, not worth the hassle

At times like these a lot of people / customers also think about the environment. Therefore I think it´s a good idea to reuse what ever you can. At least I try to do it.

I’d rather have the £10 / 14euros in my pocket. In a month it’d save me several hundred pounds and maybe ‘waste’ and hour total.

We have customers who replace the panels every 2-3 weeks for promotions…2 minutes to lay it on the bench, pull off the old one & if required put a bit of new d/s tape down on the leader section…it takes as long to go to the store, pull out a box & unwrap it.

And it keeps the customers happy as they perceive they retain value in the stand and don’t face throwing out a few dozen pop-ups every month.

If it’s broken or bent it’s a new one.

I have a contact who gives me used ones of these, roll up banners is not something I really do very often if at all. If anyone in or around Glasgow wishes to collect them they can have them free of charge, I can get more if someone can make use of them
