    Hello Jon,

The EASTSIGN company sell their own brand application table .
    This has heat assist as well .Pricing from 2.5m x 1.4 ($5800(u.s.d ) to 4m x 1.4 ($7000(u.s.d)

As per usual they replicated and improved and kept the pricing down .
I was going to spend the same on a roll to roll laminator .

    Hello Kevin,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and sharing your valuable experience on this topic. A little abit surprised with 245 views and only one response .Maybe its just not a popular topic.

I toally aggree with your comments and hope in the near future i can justify the cost to purchase one knowing the long term benefits.

If you still know of the post that compared and discussed mounting machines any link would be great .

    Thanks again.

  • Hello All,

Firstly thank you all for the feedback on my progression to move from eco solvent to HP latex. From the feedback it seems evident that LATEX technology is the way to move for the future.

In saying this i have decided to place an order for the HP L26500 and looking forward to enjoying the efficiency in not having to wait for prints to dry and also not having to deal with the fumes from solvent printing. Not sure about the power usage but this all comes with new technology .Cant have the cake and eat as well.

Once again i would like to thank the forums for the experienced feedback and looking forward to sharing my experiences with the Hp Latex in the coming months.

    Cheers,

    PJ

  • Hi Chris,

my project is very similar in design , having such a large area with app tape , did you experience any tunneling or ripples with the app tape ? Is this an issue with dry application on large area s ?

Also did you hand app the tape or machine apply ?
Can you recommend the brand of app tape you use ?

I use r-tape clear app tape on most of my vinyl cut signs but tends to ripple and tunnel on larger type signs .

    Hello All,

Firstly i would like to thank you all for your valuable feedback, its amazing to see the experience out there and the great practical processes that can be used to achieve the result i am looking for.

I call my self a new generation sign writer who has learned via the digital process and REALLY admire the guys who can still hand paint. In the 4yrs of sign writing this is the first time i’ve had to use a stencil to produce a painted sign on a canvas yawning. So you live and learn.

Thanks for help and i will use a combination of a few techniques mentioned in this post.I have used a paint designed for canvas so i am hoping it will hold together over time.Well this is according to the suppliers.

I like the ideas of using a cast vinyl as stencil material and a little heat also the white paint first to seal edge before the black goes on.

    Let see how i go……

Yes i will try a few of those processes to try and improve the end result.THX

I’m looking at upgrading my Photoprint 6se rip to latest version 10 so i am hoping the latest rip may have improved ripping technology inturn with better gradient printing results. Keeping in mind this also a an older model Mimaki JV3 130SL…..):

    Let see how we go.

Appreciate your valuable feedback guys !

  • Hello GORDON,

    Thanks for the reply.

As per usual the suppliers say this is common on all printers.I thought it was just an excuse because they couldnt supply me with a proper colour profile. In the end i had a Hexis distributor write me a profile to suit my printer and using their digital vinyl i definately had improved grey scale. Not perfect but alot better than what i had..

My model is jv3 130sl. Is yours the same model ?

    Thanks for the advice.

Have never tampered with this mimaki , can see the ribbon cable and may give it ago. This machine is probably 5yrs old now ,never in the time i have had replaced any of the cables. Only 2 x black heads and the sensor that reads the clear strip/band.

Do you know of any good programs that tell if your alignments and calibration on your head ?

    Hello ,

i had this black printed changed very late in 2009. Now the gerber tech said i was lucky to get a year and half use , most heads go well before that they said.

Tried the earth wire option with no success.I can see a $2000 head replacement coming down line….

Not sure how long black heads are suppose to last ? i guess this depends on usage and maintenance .

    Hello Shane,

Thanks for the lead to AGS, Phil is a very experienced tech and seems pretty honest.
We had a long discussion on rips and he gave me some options which i now have to make a decision which would be better suited for me.Functionality of Poster Print sounds all too good and price is sharp compared to Photoprint.Value for money for what he tells me.

I have no experience on Posterprint like i have with Photoprint so that’s why i am putting out to the forum to see if other people can share their experiences with this product. Lets see what happens. Thanks again.

    Ok Guys,

In my quest to upgrade my RIP from photoprint 5SE to 6dx a experienced sales tech has offered me a package to replace my original rip with Ergo soft Poster Print, this will also include spending a day writing profiles to suit.

According to the tech ,this Rip has more features than Photoprint and more cost effective overall to purchase. Also production efficient when tiling, nesting and importing multiple files into one print layout.

Has anyone had any experience with Ergo soft Poster Print and has it been a reliable ,stable and efficient rip program to use ?

    Appreciate your feedback,

    Hello Rob,

Thanks for feedback and the video.
My lord i hope one day i can be as quick as you on large prints. Thats amazing you got through 90% without a bubble or crease .I guess this takes years of practice with technique.

I tried another vinyl today instead of the Arlon i used the Avery 2003 EZRS it has similar qualities as the Arlon with air release although goes on really well in all conditions .15degrees today. This is a thicker vinyl which has good body/stiffness but i dont get as good print quality as the Arlon so thats why i use it ,also the Arlon is well priced.

Thanks for the feedback and will take it all on board.

    Hello Shane,

    Thanks for your comments.

AGS took over power digital in QLD who are one of the distributors for Mimaki .Unfortunately their techs are all in QLD. Will give them a call to see if they have anyone on board in Melbourne that may help.I really need a experienced mimaki tech who knows how to write profiles.

    Thanks for the lead.

    Hello Kev,

    Appreciate your comments.

The biggest problem i have is trying to find a profile that is compatible with my Mimaki JV3 130SL ,its a few years old now and is hardly seen in the list of profiles for printers. Mimaki produced this in small numbers and then brought out a newer improved unit which was the JV3 130SP. According to the techs my model was the dark horse.

    The search continues ………….

    Hi Chris,

Unfortunately here in Melbourne there are not many printer techs that are experienced enough to write color profiles for my rip and printer. They all have to come from SYDNEY which is an hours flight with a cost starting around $1500 aud round trip including profile design.

The problem is there is no guarantees with any tech.
I guess that’s why i am looking for as much market feedback i can so i can make a cost effective and educated decision on the the RIP program etc..

If performance doesn’t improve then a full machine upgrade looks positive.

    Thanks James,

How old is your JV3 ?
When you print your color swatch files are they smooth with very little speckle ?
How are your greys when you print? Would there be any chance you could EMAIL me a sample picture of your swatch greys that you have already printed ?

I would be interested to see the difference.

    Hello James,

    Thanks for the detailed feedback.
I am using basic CMYK and havent used the lighter inks.Possible option in the near future.Did you get Colourgate rip when you purchased your JV3 130SL ? Or did you replace it after to improve color management ?

I have considered upgrading my rip because its outdated to the latest Photo print but i just want to be comfortable spending the $$ that i will get improved results..Is the colourgate rip performing for you for most things ?

    Your thoughts,

    Hello LEE,

I am from Melbourne and i noticed you are a fellow Australian, are you able to tell me where in Australia i can source these plastic stand offs for fixing cnc cut letters to a wall ?I’m finding them hard to locate.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers,

    quote Lee Attewell:

Glob of Silicone behind the letter? Should be able to level off by eye so letters are the same distance from the wall surface.

Or what about making your own standoffs by cutting down some thin acrylic tubing to the right size?

    Hello James,

I was just reading your post on your ink problems with your jv3 and its great its sorted it self out. These problems are real pain.

i also have issues with my printer ,mainly color management.I’m looking for a color profile that’s prints reasonable true colors. My color ‘s are a hit and miss and the moment.

Would you be interested in sharing your experiences with colors and what types of media work best with your printer ?i understand you maybe from a cooler climate which may make a difference.I am from Melbourne Australia.

I am running photo print 5 as a rip and use genuine eco solvent inks.
Keen to find out what rip you are running ,what profile you are using and also ink types? i have alot of problems with lighter grey’s not being nice and crisp.Always comes out speckled and even when you look closer.

    Appreciate your help

    Hello Karl,

Appreciate the feedback.I have been given numerous profiles from different sources that haven’t improved results.

I was hoping to find someone who has the same printer that dosen’t have a greyscale issue, that way i can source the same profile from them and duplicate the settings on my printer to hopefully achieve the same or simular results they have.

I’m hoping someone on this forum may help.
