  • Mimaki JV3 wiper error 46 – help needed, please?

Posted by John Thomson on December 2, 2012 at 10:20 am

    Hi,

    Error 46 Wiper error

I am getting this more and more on my JV3.
Previously a good clean of the wiper area got rid of it for a few months.

It is not doing its sleep clean due to the error, you need to press the enter button then it continues as normal.
When booting up more and more I get the Error 46 wiper error flashing up…..again press enter and it continues.

I have cleaned all the wiper gears from the front and back via the removable plate, rails are clean, micro switch looks clean.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I am missing? Could my adjustment of the capping station after fitting new cap tops have contributed?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    John

    Problem resolved 😀

There was a build up of dried ink underneath the the micro switch….so when the wiper moved the switch did not open.

A thorough clean and it is perfect again.

    Yeah, that makes sense.

I carry an spare refurbished wiper assembly with me at all times. It has a new wiper, sponge and belt in it so when a customer needs a service, I give them that for the price of the new bits and stick there’s in the back of my car for a few days to dry out, then strip it down and do the same thing, and so the loop goes on. It’s a horrible job having to rebuild them when it’s covered in wet ink so this way it’s more like a 15 minute job and the customer pays a fraction of the labour and I don’t get ink on everything I tough for the rest of the day 🙄

Glad you got it sorted though.

    Hello John,

It seems i may have the same problem as you , same error and my wiper is spottles although the sponge is very saturated with ink.

Would really appreciate if you could let me know where the micro switch is located? This error IS driving me nuts !

Any help would be great .

    Cheers,

Here’s one I’m due to refurb over the next few days now the ink has dried out and gone crusty. It will be totally stripped down and cleaned out and fitted with a new genuine Mimaki switch, sponge and wiper.

See the small silver bracket to the right, in front of the motor:

Pull the wiper forward and undo the philips screw holding the bracket to the wiper assy body, then wriggle it out. This will be messy and take a bit of leverage to break it away from all the gunk:

Turn the bracket upside down and clean that switch as best you can.

Reassembly is pretty easy but always make sure the wiper is forward or when you switch it on again, the arm of the wiper itself will bend the switch out of line.

If that doesn’t sort it, it could be that the gear to the rear of the assembly is covered in cack!! Give that a good clean off and you should be good to go.

Let me know if you get any problems.

    Stafford 😉

I clean everything without removing the assembly……..after seeing those photos I realise just how clean I keep my machine 😮

Yeah, a lot of people do keep them in good condition. However, there are the odd few that get neglected. This was from an old JV3S I broke for spares a couple of months ago and it was proper manky. However, I’ve seen a LOT worse than this, hence keeping a refurbed one with me at all times.

For anyone else reading this, all JV3’s have the same wiper assembly from 75-250 and S-SPII.

What is the best way to remove the wiper sensor? Do access and remove it from the front or the back?

The wiper sensor is held in by a bracket which is bolted to the right side of the assembly. It’s easier to just remove the whole assembly and angle it so you can access the bolt. Be aware that while the wiper motor cable unplugs at the motor end and can be plugged back in (if you have small hands), the wiper sensor plugs in to the IO board which is behind the control panel so that whole side panel has to be removed. Or you can bodge it and cut the cable and solder the new one in but where’s the fun in that, eh?

This whole process is, of course, done at your own risk.
