-

good on you paul some people just hit a stone wall they have every intention of paying you but things just happen .Then theres those who have no intention of paying in the first place
-
quote Paul.Carter:We had one recently the overall Invoice amount was for £750. The customer asked for 30 days which I was happy to give
because we had done lots of work for him before which he always settled quickly. This time very different lots of excuses
blah blah blah. 60 days later I was getting abit stressed out with it sending various e-mails, letters with no reply.Started looking into the small claims, collection agencies etc when he finally returned my call said he would send two post dated cheques for £375. To be fair one arrived which we banked and it did clear but never saw the the other one and to be honest that made me more mad. But we later herd he had infact gone (oh i swore !) up very soon after our cheque cleared owing
various amounts. So in a nutshell we were lucky to get half our money I remembered he had a very young family and to be honest he overstretched himself and just had to much on finance. I actually emailed him wishing him the best of luck for the future
I just kept thinking about his family it’s not nice he never paid the full amount but it was obvious he just could not pay
not like the ones who can and take the (oh i swore !). -

You always have your phone on you and most have a good camera on them. Somthing like this but a dedicated app would be great
https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/i use vynil master(austrailian) it has this facility and works really well

Ive never had any problems neil to be honest and there was a tin that sat for 3 years.its just one of these paints you have to give a good stir. Its a good colour to mix in with gold size when your doing transfer gold jobs. Its not cheap but i personally think its the best

quote Duncan Wilkie:Thank you to Jamie Wood for helping me track down the new Hunter Douglas logo. I promised I would post a picture when I finished the job. All hand painted, wall is 24 m. long, I used pounce patterns and acrylic latex paint. Angled sash brushes for all except the small lettering…

quote :However…
I was in Perth, Scotland Last week and I echo what you have just said. the majority of signage was crap. it was very dated, and tired looking. design work etc poor. I actually made a comment that a decent sign maker up here would do well.
i know there are sign makers from Perth on these boards. something for them to consider!hmmmm i agree rob thankfully cant remmember last shop i did…..a long long time ago the whole bloody town is tired and dated 😕

quote DavidRogers:quote Glenn Sharp:The Ferrari desk looks impressive, the Connect van looks good, for some reason the fridge is my favourite but I’ve got to be honest Dave and say that the kerning around the A’s on the Cheryl Fitzgerald signs is doing my head in
Thanks for sharing
thanks, was also pleased with desk and fridge especially…kerning, ‘client supplied logo…do not alter’. I should also mention that the letters either side of the A accentuate the gap although the spacing between the serifs are ‘correct’ for the font but not visually even.
Client was over the moon with the job and paid well for it…
should have told them dave …its out, they would have thanked you for it at given there designer an ear bashing

nice one neil ill use that to confuse customers 😀 😀 😀 😀

do lefties always drop shadow to the left?
or does the sun rise in the east where the lefties live…….Don’t know the answer to that
One thing for sure with all brushies is that the shadow goes underneath and not at the topI’m correct am I?…………..am I? 😕
John – For me it’s always been to the left and underneath. Even when I was young in School I loved to look at lettering work and used to draw on my jotters (not to be advised!!!) and it just seemed natural to me to have the light from top-right. For me, having the shadow at the top seems to resemble a 3D letter being viewed from above the horizon, even although it may not have been the intention. If you use a chistle writer, it’s natural to have it rotated ~45 deg to the left (for me anyhow) which aids the form of the stroke going down and underneath in (often) a single sweep depending on the letter size – similar to one stroke or caligraphy. I’ve always thought it more logical and readable to have the shade that way as when the eye tracks left to right along a word or sentence the shadow is left behind and doesn’t have the effect of creating an obstruction for the eye to flow on to the next letter. Getting a bit deep there, I realise!! But it’s amazing what your brain finds to think about when your stand there twiddling the brush! 😀
oh neil your far to sharp for me im only paid from the waist down…i just strike to lines scribble roughly where its gona go and move accordingly 😀 😀 😀
-
Robert you should give it another go…good set of good quality brushes…pure sable chisle writers is my choice . Script lettering as any sign-writer will tell you is the easiest to do light touch for the thin strokes then more pressure on the brush for the thicker…easier to do than to describe if you get my meaning v
-
thankyou guys ….John.. you know ive never gave it a thought ive always done the shading from the left it just seems to come natural
-
nice one mike 😀

yeh craig and i suppose if im honest i have dragged the maul stick over it 😀

When explaining to a customer We do a quick hand drawing on a piece of paper then fold it in half.
Thats the easy bit…..We’re trying to explain it to a SIGNMAKER !
…..very good martin 😀 Im well aware of the correct way to produce an A frame board to point the right direction .It was my fault from the start i picked dave up wrong thinking he had delivered the board to the customer and it was wrong. I thought the board was panels that had slotted in and been put in wrong . Ive since said sorry to david my mistake. Just you pointed out in one of your posts that this couldnt be done wrong. you seem to be ignoring my explantion so ill mabe do a drawing for you 😀
-
hi stu welcome maty

MemberDecember 19, 2013 at 11:59 am in reply to: Motorcycle Decals, your views please?sided board or two separate panels…..course it maters martin it maters a great deal if they were put on panels and the panels were left on one side left on the other ….or if you like right to right it would be wrong …..in this case David im sorry ive read the post wrong for some reason i thought youd actually delivered it on site …..anyway its cheered up the run up to christmas …….ps Martin if you want a better image to put a dunce cap on ill send you it …its just that as far as the dunce cap goes you could have taken into photoshop and made a better job 😀 😀

MemberDecember 19, 2013 at 10:14 am in reply to: Motorcycle Decals, your views please?David im not thick …im sure the bloody customer isnt either i know exactly what you mean im just finding it difficult how the customer would think they were wrong in the first place un less they were ………thanks for that martin
-
so did you supply flat panels for the guy you put on an existing A frame Dave? perhaps the frame was ok and he just wanted to replace the panels? thats the only way i can think that mistake can happen or did he just take it out of the car and think hang on here ?
-
Brian Little
MemberDecember 18, 2013 at 11:57 pm in reply to: Motorcycle Decals, your views please?yep your right martin thats exactly my point he did infact say it was an a frame one item . Dave didnt say it was panels !! . if the customer is looking at his board and one arrow is pointing to his shop and the othere is pointing to the road then its wrong !! if the guy then phoned him up and and said he had made a mistake then its panels …inserts if you like then i canunderstand that but as i said before we were told its an a frame in which case its been put on wrong at workshop
-
I think your more of a customer than a professional ! Brian….eh thanks for that
-
hmm Mr Rogers your ecuse would work if it was an "A" board as you clearly say in your post Mr Rogers ….but it clearly isnt is it Mr Rogers its seperate panels which would easely be mixed up by a customer 😀 You didnt refer to the product as "them" but "it" which leaves me to the point have you quickly drawn these up to save face 😀 😀 😀 I Rest my case your Honer
-
hmmm sorry john but im afraid im going the RHG route id have to charge you my freind!!
-
I specifically asked for an ‘A’ board with an arrow to point to my shop – I’ve got one side pointing left and one side pointing right – rant – rant feckless idiot…"
well then its still wrong if the guy is sitting looking at it on the pavement and ones pointing away from the shop
