Love it when a customer clean’s their vehicle…
Posted by David Hammond on December 19, 2013 at 3:59 pmCall from a customer on Tuesday for to have their brand new catering van sign written today/tonight. No problem material’s ordered, van’s delivered direct from the manufacturer very well made and tidy.
They even went to the trouble of cleaning it… with WD40 (chat.) (chat.) (chat.)
No amount of 3M surface cleaner, Fairy, Jet Washing, Meths, is shifting it, and no vinyl is sticking to it.
Brilliant, look’s like the customer’s going to have to wait till it all disperses naturally as I don’t think it’s going to be done for tomorrow. [/u]

Fantastic! 😀
I thought it was going to be a picture of a filthy van, but that’s much funnier. (Glad I’m not trying to get it clean) 🙄
Cheers
Paul -
tell the truth, you wrapped it in brushed silver vinyl. 😉

I wish we had Rob.
We’ve tried just sticking the logo on, but we can’t even remove the application tape without the logo coming away from the steel.
Trouble is now, our customer’s paid the deposit, we’ve ordered materials and through no fault of our own, or the customers, we can’t do the job. 😕 I’m stuck with 25m of vinyl. (at least it’s red so will have some use!)
-
Yep, even went out to buy some specially for it.
I’m completely at a loss… I don’t want to spend any longer on it, as it’s not going to stay stuck. It’s either done right or not at all. 🙁

Bugger, thought that might work . . 😥
Just had a quick search and found a response on a bike forum (some muppet had got some on a prepped frame that was ready for spraying)
According to the makers of WD40 (who sent a response) ‘mineral spirits or acetone’ should do the trick, but I think you’re probably right to cut your losses rather than risk a future problem.
Sorry I’ve got no better suggestions -
Oil dispersant detergent? I think you should be able to get some stuff like made by Gunk for the automotive industry.
EDIT:
Maybe something like this. You get it in spray foam as well.

petrol?
H&S warning, don’t have a cigarette hanging out your mouth when doing this. :lol1:
Isopror or meths from b&q should do it…

We deal with a lot of mx plastics that the bikers love soaking in wd40 isopro does clean it. Part of your problem will be temperature standard vinyls will not stick to cold bare metals.
Also ask the manufacturers if a protection covering has been applied. -
To remove wd40 from surfaces in the motorsport industry we used wurths brake cleaner product no.(0890 108713) never let us down and i have fitted graphics to the surfaces no problem, but i do agree with Chris W tempature would be an issue even when its fully clean

Hi David
We have had a similar problem in the past the only thing we found that worked was G101 degreaser from auto smart, just spray it on leave 5 mins and wash off the we just wiped over with alcohol stuck perfect after that.
-
We us quite a few autosmart products for various tasks, the G101 is a fantastic product and would have done the job!
My wife uses it diluted in a bottle for getting dirt/oil etc of clothes before going in washing machine, just like others would use vanish.

bit late bud but for future try a can of u-pol panel wipe,
i use it to wipe down before i paint cars or whatever im doing, theres nothing it wont shift.
