I have a roland which are not the best for tracking but I can cut long lenghts if I :- Cut the required length of vinyl plus about 8 inches spare off the roll so there is no drag at all.

It takes patience to get it right alot of patience but it can be done.

One trick is when you have load the vinyl into the machine and it runs true, cut the front off square by the machine and the next time you load the remaining vinyl palce it square with the front of the machine and its a good starting point for being square. Brian 😆

Well ! I think I agree with Fat Bob on this one, farm it out unless youve nocked back 10-12 printing jobs in the last month. Has anyone read the article in this months SignCraft mag ? basicaly it reckons that you should focus on what your good at, and not try and take on too many different things ? I now nothing about printing digital or otherwise and it must be a steep learning curve compared to using straight vinyl ? I can airbrush a little but thats as much as I think I will venture into printing. Brian 😛

Clean the grit roller with meths and an old toohbrush to loosen any old bits of vinyl that may be attached and remove any residue. I very seldom buy full rolls of vinyl mostly 10-15 mtr roll lenghts at a time and I have never experieced any problems with tracking. What type of backing paper is it ?
I have heard tha certain types of backing paper wont track through summa cutters ? Some times I measure a lenght and cut it off prior to cutting to reduce the drag. Brian 😕

If you print onto coated vinyl and then overlaminte with clear vinyl what happens is the coated vinyl acts as a sponge and will soak moister in from around the edges and will eventually get in between the two layers. Brian

I have looked through a lot of planning stuff and it seems to be a common thing that temp banners dont requite Planning Permission but I think if it comes to the test, they will tell you to take it down temp or not. You or the person owning the land or building need permission to place any signs over a certain size on it. There are classes of signs that are granted automatic permission but you still need to apply. Basically it depends on where you are, each council is different. Stick it up a see what happens, its all down to the planning enforcement officer. Brian 😎

I would have thought that you should be able to get pigmented inks for that size of machine ? It would be worth spending sometime trying to locate 3rd party pigmented inks as the colour will stand up much longer with pigmented inks. Brian

What you have all said makes sense to me, thats why I found it strange that they change hands on such a reguarly basis. Certainly could not afford an Edge, A second hand colour camm is all thats within my reach at the moment so I will keep my eyes and ears open.
    Thanks for the feedback, Brian

What you could and I have done if its a difficult vehicle to pick up a level on is, Take a wooden yard stick and measure up at the back, middle, and front, apply some masking tape and mark with a pencil at the top of the yard stick and that will give you a level with respect to the ground , which after all thats what they run and after that you can work from there. If by nesting you mean, shuffling all the same coloured bits of vinyl around to use the least anmount of vinyl when cutting well yes it dos but only on multipul copies of the same thing It wont as far as I know shuffle 10 diiferent bits of artwork around that are all the same colour to use less space. I hope this answers your question Robert, Brian 🙂

I have been a corel user for years now and to be honest using anything else is a little strange, The beauty of signgo for me is that it has the most powerful cutting menu I have ever seen. You can load a piece of vinyl into the cutter (CX24 ) and press piece and the cutter measures the lenght and width of the vinyl and signgo will actually read that information from the cutter and display it on the screen, this allows you to cut multi copies really easy without to much work, I save all my work from corel draw as a HPGL plot file and import it into signgo to cut its by far the easiest way even thought I can cut direct from corel with the roland cx24.
I have done a little designing with signgo and find it ok to work with, but its all to easy to drop back to corel draw for me.
So to sum up a great program for cutting from for me. Brian 😀

The reason I ask is, Just bought a laptop with XP on it. I knew corel 9 would work as I have installed it on the laptop but thinking about buying Signtools 3 but ! not sure about signtools under xp. will try and get some sense out of the suppliers but there is nothing like talking to someone who has already done it. Many thanks Brian 🙂

I have had this odd times, and I am sure that its beacuse you are giving it an outline, try just using the fill. I design in corel draw and cut from a different prgram at a different location.
Basically I design in cd9 and then save it as a HPGL file but just with fill and no outlines and then transfer it to another machine and load the HPGL file in and cuts fine. Brian 🙂

I own an old PNC5000 its used rarely. When I do use it its mostly for printing a few lables and stickers, I would not replace the head if it went, I would just keep it as a spare plotter. Its capable of printing good small work when using spot colours but slow at cutting. The banding that everyone talks about to me isn`t banding its were the head has made each pass and over lapped a little, the easy to hide it is to give the work a quick blast of any clear coat and that levels up the surface. As has been said the way forward is with inkets as these come down in price, but that stil leaves the cost of consumables. To me leaver the printing to the printers and let the signmakers make signs . Brian 🙂
