  • Which printer should i buy?

Posted by Redproud on March 10, 2003 at 10:58 am

    Hi folks,

Im looking to buy a new printer for printing of my designs and photos, i currently use a sharp aj-1800 and a lexmark z45. Both these printers do not print out as precise as i would like, i have been told to try and buy an epson. But i am only looking to spend around 200 quid or less, can anyone advise me on which epson printer to buy ?

Also anyone know of any wbsites which sell cheaper ink for any of these printers?

David, I’ve always used Epson and found them to be good machines, consider looking for one with four seperate CMYK cartridges as the 3 together you always seem to run out of blue before red & yellow, the next machine I buy I’m thinking of buying a combined printer, scanner, copier as a mate has one and they are a useful bit of kit.

I have a Epson Stylus Photo 890, and it works well, I had an Epson Clor Stylus 600 before and a Canon before that.

No problems, except like Steve says the colour cartridges on mine are in one lump.

    Hi David,
We use Epson printers and i would recommend a 1290 (prints up to A3) retails about £320 but have a look on ebay you should be able to pick up a new one for £250 tops.We use compatable ink and get great results.

Concur with that, very happy with the Epsons. Currently using an 895. Only downside is the cost of cartridges (like most of the inkjets).

Great for one off high quality proofs, but we use a colour laser for general stuff.

Tried 3rd party cheaper carts but not content with the quality on photos. Anyone with any better experiences?

We use an Epson Stylus Photo 1290 gives excellent results on plain paper but stunning quality when the specialist Epson papers are used we use the self adhesive paper this is great for slotting little prints into vinyl jobs and exterior if laminated we also use choices stationery their prices on all ink tanks are very very cheap I RECOMMEND THAT YOU ALL USE THEM FOR ALL YOUR PRINTERS EXCELLENT ONLINE PURCHASE FACILITIES THEY ALSO DO LASER PRINTER CARTS CHEAPER THAN ANYONE see above post for website address
WE PAID £255 FOR THE EPSON PRINTER AT MAC WAREHOUSE

    Hi folks,

Thanks to everyone who responded about which printer i should buy, i went on ebay as suggested and got myself a brand new epson 1290 including delivery to my door for £275.99. There is a company who are selling around 40 of these printers on ebay. A company called Gradient from Manchester, they also have a website which is http://www.inkraider.co.uk. On their website they are selling them for around the £300.00 mark, but selling them on ebay at £269.00. So if anybodys looking for one i suggest you log onto ebay and get yourself an epson.

Again thanks to everyone who replyed to my original message, i really appreciate your valued advice.

So i should get my epson 1290 by friday or possibly monday.

Anywhere online where i can get quality paper to print on along with the self adhesive stuff??

    All the best folks

There is an XP driver for the 1290. You’ll find it for download at http://www.epson.co.uk in the tech support / downloads section.
