anyone have any ideas for fixing sign to roof please?
Posted by Marcella Ross on March 18, 2003 at 2:43 pmI have a customer looking to put a 4 x 40ft sign along the apex of his roof advertising his new car wash.
As it will be a temporary sign I’m looking for a cost effective, secure solution, any ideas?Marcella

Cheapest bet would be to use a banner I think.
Just screw it to the building using a large washer & screw. Keeping it pulled tight. As you will know banner material is very cheap.
You could tell the guy the good thing about using this method is that:
(a) Its not expensive
(b) When you put up the new sign its easily taken down and stored.
(c) Can be used again on another location or stripped and re-lettered for more sales promotions in his garage.
(d) He could letter the reverse and keep as it is on the front. So he can chop and change the deal without having to fork out every time. -
Am i right but temporary banners do not need planning permission, so thats a plus as well

I have looked through a lot of planning stuff and it seems to be a common thing that temp banners dont requite Planning Permission but I think if it comes to the test, they will tell you to take it down temp or not. You or the person owning the land or building need permission to place any signs over a certain size on it. There are classes of signs that are granted automatic permission but you still need to apply. Basically it depends on where you are, each council is different. Stick it up a see what happens, its all down to the planning enforcement officer. Brian 😎

Thanks Robert,
He’s looking to have it upright from the apex, not lying on the roof, that’s my problem! 🙁 I thought about a banner, the perforated type that would allow the wind to pass through, but not sure on how I could fix it upright. Is there some sort of flag pole that could be bolted onto his roof? It’s securing something like that upright with little support.
😕Marcella.

Planning permission……?
He’s got that sorted. The last time he put something on his roof it took 3 months before it was queried, by that time the sign had done it’s job!!!!
