It’s supposed to be a custom font by Dalton Maag, so if they want it spot-on, they’ll have to give you a copy of the font, or get the text set for you.

Try this Rich.
Unfortunately my Univers doesn’t have the alternate & but I’ve included a backwards B which should be pretty straightforward to adapt.
Good luck.

Zurich is Bitstream’s copy of Univers.
I’ve got it at work if you still need it in the morning Richard.
-
I ripped this from a PDF on their site.

Very interesting.
The piece about the screenprints is fun.
I have to say, personally I’m a bit sceptical. For instance, if he he really meant "You don’t need a band to be a rock star." what was he doing with the Velvet Underground?
I’d always thought of him as a New York figure, I suppose because of the Factory, but I see he was born in Pittsburgh.
I think I’d probably rather spend a few hours in the D’Orsay or the Bargello, but if I ever make it to Pittsburgh Jill, you’ll have to show me round the Warhol.
PS: It’s just occurred to me that perhaps we could to raise tone round here a bit and start a thread to post hastily snapped pictures taken in art galleries, museums etc. before you get told "No photo!" 🙂

I hope you’re joking Rob. 😮

Try this

Thanks too, Jamie, exactly the text I was after!
-
It’s very similar to Benguiat, with the taper taken out of the U
-
There’s something odd though, ‘cos the company is definitely "Marks & Spencer" NOT "Marks & Spencers"
-
All the Vista fonts are in the MS Office Compatibility Pack
-
I’d definitely get on to P22 and ask for their opinion.
The file and the outlines are theirs after all, you’re only buying a license to use them when you buy from anybody else.
They maybe aren’t intending that their fonts are used at some of the huge sizes that we might want to use them at. But that "A" is very poor, it would be interesting to see what size those dodgy outlines become apparent when it’s printed.

MemberMarch 3, 2009 at 8:48 am in reply to: would anyone be able to identify this font please? It’s VERY similar to Marvin by Face Photosetting that I have in an old Letraset book.
I can’t see a digital version anywhere unfortunately.
-
HOLIDAYS looks like Serpentine Sans to me.
-
Quite often problematic EPS files that won’t "Open" can be imported (into Illustrator) using the "Place" command.
Doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a go…
-
Univers bold condensed italic?
-
I think the original is probably ITC Busorama, I have it in an old Letraset book.
-
Fascinating… George’s file looks perfectly good to me, ‘cept it’s in Arial and the logo on the website, and the only PDF that Google found there, is set in various weights of Helvetica Neue.
Altought they do use Arial extensively on their website.
Where’d yours come from George?
I’d heard about this from one of our clients, but not paid too much attention really.
The FAQ on http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk makes for interesting reading.
I think I’m going to have to find out whether I count as a "stakeholder" as a gas consumer and why on earth anyone should think that you need to "add value to gas consumer safety"
Richard
-
Try this, Regular is the only weight I have though.
-
Chromium, only knew it as an old Letraset font.
-
quote Jillbeans:Maybe it was Don Quixote….
:lol1:
Love….JillThat was the first thing I thought of too Jill 😀
-
You can get all the new Vista fonts in the MS Office 2007 Compatibility Pack
-
Albertus, I don’t have the right weight I’m afraid.
-
Barmeno the rounded brother of Dax.
I haven’t got it I’m afraid
-
I think it probably started out as Belwe Bold
You might be able to rip the logo from page 13 of their Interim Report PDF here
-
I think BT in a font name generally indicates a Bitstream font.
There’s quite a good image here here
Of the top of my head, I would have looked at Perpetua, but I don’t think that’s it.

Is there any type in it? Maybe a font issue?

I’m glad I’m not going completely ga-ga.
And I’m glad you’re sorted, I hope you didn’t miss too many messages.
-
Did the title of this thread get edited?
-
There’s a Signlab font called Dynamic that seems to match.
-
Odder!
We just tried Placing the EPS in a new file in CS2 and it worked perfectly, no need to Expand/Release/Flatten or anything else.
Richard
-
quote David_Evans:Tried that shows me a preview but just places an empty box.
That’s odd.
I’ll have to try that with CS2 at work in the morning.
Object>Expand (or Release) seems to ring a bell.
There must be a fundamental difference between CS and CS2 handling placed EPSs
Glad you’re sorted in this instance anyhoo.
Richard
-
You should be able to "Place" the EPS in a new file.
I just tried and it worked into CS.
It’s always worth a try. I’ve also managed to get odd PDFs open by changing the file extension to EPS.

I’ve had good results from that.
-
Stone Sans Bold?
-
-
Albertus?
-
I think it’s just a bold italic Antique Olive with a bevel effect
-
It’s called Kindersley, and I think it is rather fine.
Designed by a pupil of Eric Gill, David Kindersley
How it came to be adopted for use in street nameplates and how these pressed metal plates are made I’d love to know.
I don’t believe there is a commercially available (genuine) cut of this font.
-
HEDDLU looks like Gill to me. It’s the width of the H and the D.
It is VERY small though 😀
-
I think it’s Helvetica Rounded, a bit squooshed.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was actually the italic that had been backslanted to vertical for some reason. That might account for some of the rather odd variations in the stroke weight in the curves
-
I’d say it started out as Univers.
-
Excellent.
I saw him with Clapton a few years ago, watched his set from Glasto last night.
As you say, still a great performer and no less than a blues legend himself.
I like the tee-shirt, but I’d imagine that Deep Purple got there first.
-
UPDATE: It looks like you should be able to rip the Brett logo from the "July 2007" PDF on this page
-
Sorry Chris, I couldn’t help it.
I did think we might have done this, but it turns out it was Provian (their rebranded construction group) not Brett unfortunately.
Good luck.

I think this request is an oxymoron.

quote :c) chevron markings comprising alternate strips of fluorescent orange-red retroreflective material
and fluorescent yellow non-retroreflective material, of not less than 150mm width each, inclined
at 45-60° to the horizontal and pointing upwards, ord) a solid block of fluorescent orange-red retroreflective material.

Fabulous pictures Peter.
Is that Lynn in the Ecurie Ecosse "Corporal"? LSF 420 ought to be the Tony Rolt/Duncan Hamilton 1953 Le Mans winner. I should think that’s worth a small fortune.
What’s in the transporter in front of Mother Gun? It looks like a Bentley tourer and another special in front.
Richard
-
quote Peter Normington:Lynn…raring to go in the miglia millia. in the c type
That looks more like a D than a C, Peter. Very nice.
Here’s another picture of Mother Gun, from last year’s Goodwood FOS.
I think that’s the Pacey Hassan Special and Babs behind, with the Napier Railton right at the back.
-
Maybe Zapfino with an F?
I’m afraid not.
It does look rather good, but with all those alternates, you’d probably need your client to set the text and convert to outline to be sure of getting it right anyway.
-
Video’s fine, but what the hell was the racket going on in the background?
Originally Waddy Watchel’s fine chops on Stevie Nicks’ Edge of Seventeen…

Not "Nobo", as in dry-wipe, white-board by any chance?
No? well it was just an idea…
-
‘fraid not Mark, I just recognised it from somewhere 😕
-
ThamesGroup looks like a stretched Officina Sans, but I’ve no idea what the other font is.
-
It’s often worth trying to "Place" a newer EPS file.
There are obviously limits (I doubt you’d be able to Place CS2 into AI9 for instance), and I don’t know what they are, but I’ve managed to get a CS3 file into CS2 by doing this.
-
This http://www.nsi.org.uk/PDF/Network%2013.pdf looks promising.

Hi Jill, looks like it, good call.
I’ve never quite figured out how Bitstream managed to come up with so many fonts that look SO similar to existing designs, without being regarded as a bunch of rip-off merchants.
-
The top one’s Antique Olive, and I think Jill is right about Curlz.
-
each to his own an’ all… but wouldn’t it be better to add another pair of wheels and make it into a proper car?
-
Sorry Graeme, I could have been clearer.
It’s a "Compatibility Pack for MS Office 2007 System"
It’s a free thing from Microsoft to enable you to open *X files in older versions of Office components. I think it does Excel and Powerpoint files as well.
-
Try Googling for something like Office 2007 conversion pack from MS.
Should enable you to open DOCX in earlier versions of word.

MemberFebruary 27, 2008 at 12:59 pm in reply to: is screenprinting transfers a difficult process? It’s not really any harder than screen printing anything else.
The tricky bit is using the right combination of ink, adhesive and transfer paper. The permutations are almost endless.
Peter, I think it’s horses for courses, I doubt many digital processes can get the colour match accuracy and intensity of screen ink.
We print quite a lot. Look us up, Quazar International. (I’ll probably get "modded" for that 😀 )

You could try to Place the file, rather than open it.
It worked here for some getting some CS3 files into CS2 yesterday.
With the placed file selected, click on the Embed button on the tool bar.
-
Serif Gothic.
There’s a SignLab font based on it, if that helps.
-
I hadn’t noticed the ampersand, as you say, it looks pretty straightforward to alter.
It’s amazing, some days, you just can’t see for looking 😮
-
try this
-
Press Ctrl+D in a PDF to view the file properties. There’s a Fonts tab in there.
Very useful.

Off the top of my head(?) Locksbottom, Pratts Bottom and Badgers Mount are all within five or six miles.
Slightly related to another thread, I believe BC Ecclestone has a residence in Locksbottom. He also (I believe) has a significant commercial interest in Biggin Hill airport, which is only a couple of miles further.
-
According to the menu on their site:
Myriad Roman and JohnHandyPlain (which I’ve not heard of before, but that doesn’t mean anything!).
Micky’s right about the Arial.
