is screenprinting transfers a difficult process?
Posted by Justin Mann on February 27, 2008 at 11:35 amIs there any reason why I have found it so hard to get a screen printer that will print custom made paper transfers? They just keep telling me it’s better to have the shirts directly screen printed….I know! it’s just not an option so give me transfers!
Companies seem to be few and far between that are willing to print transfers, is it a difficult process?
Appreciate your advice,

Is there a reason why you need them screen printed, have you thought about digital, thermal or laser printing as an alternative?

It’s not really any harder than screen printing anything else.
The tricky bit is using the right combination of ink, adhesive and transfer paper. The permutations are almost endless.
Peter, I think it’s horses for courses, I doubt many digital processes can get the colour match accuracy and intensity of screen ink.
We print quite a lot. Look us up, Quazar International. (I’ll probably get "modded" for that 😀 )

Hi Peter,
Traditionally I’ve had the designs screen printed and I’d like to keep some consistency. Digital would be fine for a couple of the designs but as they are around A3 in size they are very expensive for short run work. I can create my own transfers but the quality can never match the screen print/digital.
Thanks for your reply,

Hi Richard,
Will look you up! I guessed this might be the case. I’ve applied 100’s of stock bought screen print transfers and the quality has always been excellent, hence my enquiry.
Many thanks,

Hi Justin
Try http://www.targettransfers.com
We use them regularly and have never had a problem.

target are hideously expensive, especially for short run multi colour transfers, I’m going to start printing my own screen printed transfers soon as its far quicker and easier than weeding, but it is true as mentioned above, theres hot peel, hot split, cold peel, adhesive powders, transfer papers shrinking when overlaying, thickness of ink on layers etc, theres a lot of hassle involved in anything that is more than a basic print.

See your point Steve. 5 min post. Opps need to read the rules prior to posting.

Thanks guys. I’ve had quotes from Target as there stuff would work great for a couple of my designs and the samples are brilliant. Unfortunately the design they have just quoted me on is around £10 per transfer for small orders, I’d need to be ordering 500 to get it anywhere near a more realistic price. Certainly worth considering for some of the longer run jobs or smaller transfers though.
I’ve found one company that have quoted an incredible price for small run screen printed transfers so I’m in the process of getting a small job put through them to see how it goes.
Thanks again,
