There is a field marked sales tax (or something similar)in the initial interview stage in the program setup you just enter what you want to call it and at what % in our case we called it GST set to 10%. you can also change the word estimate to quote which is better suited to our clientel.
Hope this helps even if I’m not Shane, it’s just that I spent most of yesterday setting mine up
    cheers Mike

Hi to set the program to metric when you down load the program you get to choose the English or Metric version. I chose the metric which means only the measurements etc are in metric.

Well after reading Shane’s reply & realizing that quoting is absolutely my Achilles heel I bit the bullet and spent some money we didn’t really have. I have spent the day tweaking the tweaks and I can see why Shane was impressed. A couple of jobs I thought I had done really well on turned out to be priced right and jobs with my usual price turned out to be gifts to the client.
I can see why we lost money last year. I guess I new why really but didn’t know what to do, as I felt I was ripping people off. Now I know the person ripped off the most was me.
What hurts nearly as much is realizing that I was responsible for low balling quite a few jobs when that was never my intention.
We may not win the same % of quotes as before but at least this time instead of giving my money to strangers to let me do work for them, I can take the wife to the pictures and still be better of.
I wonder why it takes some of us years to stop being a dill and start to look after ourselves first. Rhetorical question really.
    regards
    Mike

    Hi Gary

Nothing to do with your question but I was born in linthwaite ( think that’s the correct spelling) just outside Huddersfield. If you do go their and have the time & a camera I would love to see some Photos. We left in 1955 and I haven’t seen anything of the place since I was brought up at 123 mooreside view and near a hotel in Tommy Lane. As I said I know its a bit rude to ask But if you have the time and its no hassle I would love to see where i grew up. Thanks Mike 😳

I am a wet person myself.
But being from Australia the drying isn’t much of an issue we are in the low to mid 30C most of the time. Frankly I have no idea how you people do this in your climate. We did a window last winter very cold day about 18C and the vinyl was noticeably different to work with. Concentrated so hard I walked of the end of my plank and landed with one foot in the water bucket and the other through the second bottom rung of a small ladder, I stumbled down the road me, bucket and ladder with the wife trying to stop me. Actually hit her in the hip with the ladder each time I swung my leg. she had more bruises than I did. Very Very embarrassing. *hair*

given that freight over here is the same price as 1 meter of vinyl I still don’t see how buying 4 meters of vinyl that I don’t need is cheaper than 1 meter plus freight and as we all know not all colours are popular. 😀

    Hi Martin
For the first time I asked for and received a substantial deposit so even if he does become difficult I will still cover costs.
He got us from the sign on our van, which he saw whilst having a blew with a sign writer who didn’t turn up for an appointment to quote. The yard is only about 1km from us so cost etc are not high. I also find that I learn so much from each job I do that I really want to do it Just for the learning experience his logo is different to any I have done before and I am really looking forward to the challenge. I asked my good lady, who is an excellent judge and she thought you didn’t look to bad.
    😀 😳 regards Mike

thanks to all. I just had a client who requested a couple of signs in the same material as one he already has (corflute). I needed to know what the down sides were so gave him options from corflute to Dibond. told him corflute has a reduced life etc in writing. He’s gone for corflute.
Thanks to all for the help.

Shane I couldn’t fish to save my life.
My only claim to fame is that when one of our sons was trying to teach me to fish I actually caught a large piece of chicken with feathers. fought like 10 tigers when he stopped laughing we went home. he hasn’t offered since.

Can I add that mrs Bancroft was very ill so her husband had a bath chiseled out of the natural rock on the foreshore when the tide came in the servants carried her down a rough path to allow her to soak in the sea water the bath is just down from our house.

    Hi Peter
I simply don’t know My Parents brought me to Aussie when i was 9 there was only Mum, Dad & I and that’s the way it has always been. Mom & Dad passed away recently and whilst going through the obligatory clean up discovered that I had 2 half brothers in England. I think Dad came from a large family (I Think) and I don’t know anything about Mums side. So as I say I don’t know We lived in Yorkshire and Mum came from somewhere near London.
So just in case Hi cousin Hugh nice to meet after all these years, then again most people think I am related to a Harry Potter from Hogwarts.

    Hi John
As far as I know it was named by Captain Cook way back in time 1788 I think he sailed past this rather large expansive Bay protected on three sides from the elements and looked like a perfect harbor for a naval fleet. upon closer examination from the boats long boat it turned out that most of the bay was and still is very shallow only a few feet and therefor was very Deceptive.
As far as I am aware that’s how we got the name.
Thanks to all for the welcome

    Guys
Stop trying to justify 5 meters. Its your system and it works for you, you have all adapted to the format and that’s great. We use a 1 meter system and we have all adapted to that & it works well for us.
For every reason we put forward you can change it and say it works better in the UK system and we can do the same. The facts are I like our system and don’t want to change to yours after all its what I am used to & likewise you like your system & don’t want to change its what you are used to. As for which is best If I paid for a business analysis The result would be in our favor however if you paid the result would be in your favor.
    have a great weekend

    Hey Garrie
Don’t worry about opening a can of worms, we should apologize for hi jacking your thread.
From my point of view I have found it very interesting, I for one had no idea that England did it any different to us re-supply I am used to the USA being different. There is nothing wrong with differences I just find it interesting. Hope you find the vinyl you need.

Shane you forgot to mention if they don’t have it in stock in brisbane they will freight it from Sydney or Melbourne at no extra cost.
As for feeling un-professional my job is to keep the inventory that i pay for under control and work within whatever system is operating in my field.

Funny what we all get used to as the normal.as Shane said all our suppliers in Aus. supply in 1 meter units if you have ordered several colours they usually roll all onto the one cylinder but non off us think its odd.we would probably think it odd if we had 5 meters as a minimum order.
Spandex here supply us in 1 meter so try them.
