Found this forum yesterday and have spent some time looking through the pages. You look like a really good crowd to me so a big hello to you all.

    So who am I?
My name is Nigel Wagstaff and I live in Doncaster. I have been in the Chemical industry for 27 years as chemist, quality manager, and finally a factory manager. On December 1st I was made redundant and find myself out of work for the first time in my life 😮

I always said I would have a go at doing something for myself if forced into the situation so here I am thinking of having a go with vinyl.

    Setup.
Self built PC that should manage things nicely :lol1:
Win XP (and not upgrading to Vesta until at least service pack 1)
    CorelDraw 12
    Graphtec Cutter controller software
Graphtec CE5000 (15" to start with)

My main interest will be supplying paint masks for scale model makers (I do this myself) who have very exacting needs for insignia etc. I have spent most of December getting to grips with the cutter learning CorelDraw 12. I manage the cutter with the Graphtec controller software and then cut directly from CorelDraw 12. Not sure if that’s right or wrong but it works!

So I will spend a little more time looking round before posting my questions as I am seeing some interesting issues that will need to be addressed with the paint mask. We will see . . .

    Welcome to the boards Nigel.

Being made redundant is probably the worse thing that can happen, been there, done that. There is life after working for someone for a long time. Hope all goes well and if you have any questions or problems (except money 🙂 ) just ask, someone will have an answer 😕

Good luck in your new career Nigel. I was made redundant from my job as a Technical Manager in the brewing industry coming up for 11 years ago now and have been a signmaker ever since. Much more interesting than Chemistry 😀

    What a great welcome.

Those of you who commented on redundancy, don’t worry . . . I saw it as a liberator. I have been sniffing chemicals too long, it’s nice to be out in the fresh air.

    🙂

Catch you in the detailed subject areas.

Shane, LRSC means Licentiate Royal Society of Chemistry. The Royal Society is a well known organisation in the chemical world. Phill has worked hard to achieve that recognition.

I unfortunately stopped after my HNC Chemistry before changing direction into factory management, running up an MBA while in full time employment.

But we don’t talk about that 😕

    Doh!

Phill! Worked hard?. I’d like to see that! (joking of course 😳 )

You both sound like your way out of my intelligence sphere….. I suppose I’ll have to call him Mr Phill now :lol1:

… I’ll get back under my rock now 😕
