I will usually have them wash the car, then drop it off at the shop the night before the install. So it is ready to go in the morning. Things are pretty secure here, so I don’t worry about it. But If you are in a questionable area, I would recommend not leaving a client’s car overnight. You are probably ok if you have them deliver it early in the morning, and you park it in the shade. By 9:00 am or so when it starts to get hot, you could be long on your way.

I have to say though….I enjoy installing with a warm ambient heat better than a late night winter install. The vinyl becomes almost brittle…and will not conform unless you get it hot first…

I can’t complain about the elements, they are more helpful then not.

Robert – sounds like a plan. But I think my wife would put up a fight. She loves the heat. She is a Pool-Side girl! :lol1:

Sar – to answer your question, it liquifies at about 100 F. It can then be poured over the vehicle and then cooled down with a water hose. The occupant must drive it to a car wash 10 times a day to keep the vinyl from going back to a liquid state and becoming a parking lot floor graphic!

Honestly though, when I pull a vehicle into the shop, the surface of the paint is so hot, it would blister your hand if you touched it too long. I usually wash the vehicle to cool it down, then pull it into the shop and let it cool for several hours before an install.

    WHOOOAH!

    Where do I sign up!
We were 110 degrees the other day here in Arizona (USA). I guess that translates to 42 or so degrees Celcius.

I would love to have an 80-85 degree day… I would open the windows and enjoy the cool air!

Today we have a low of 75 and a high of 98. (24 and 37 Cel)

Our low…in the middle of the night…Is right around your high for the day.
And we are just starting Summer! We should see 117 F (47 C) before the end of summer.

I do have the ac cranked though. But it only helps when I don’t have the printer going…it produces alot of heat.

I am ready for a vacation… I think I will hop over the big lake to remember what Winter feels like! :lol1:

    Hello, to a fellow VersaCAMMer!

Do you own a versaCAMM or are you looking into it?

I am pretty pleased with mine.

    Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for the info…So 49 pounds huh….I think that converts to like $70. Is the info within good enough that it is worth that? I am really thinking about it. It looks like good topics.

    Thanks for the comments.

As for Jill, :bike; A JD is a JD through and through.

I used Cast Avery EZ. And for an overlam, I used the Avery Cast 1005 laminate. The installation went fairly well…not perfect. The client is very happy with it. But we noticed a few spots where it is pulling back a bit. I think it is a mixture of 2 reasons.

    a. I installed some of the wrap wet. (I am an beginner what can I say)
apparently EZ doesn’t like to get wet.

    b. We found some wax residue near the windows and we think the truck may not have been cleaned thouroughly enough. But for the most part it turned out nice. And he feels like he got a deal.

Yes, I designed every graphic used in this wrap (logo, cricket, signs). They are all vector images so they are as sharp as can be. I also printed them high res, and have since learned that that is not nesissary. I am glad about that too, because…this thing took forever to print. That is by far my #1 problem with the versaCAMM….The Speed!

-I have a question, what do I need to do to gain access to the other forums. Like the one with the instructional video on how to to wraps?

Thanks for any help, you guys are great!

I recently did some promotional fridge magnets. I just printed (with my VersaCAMM) to vinyl, laminated, then applied the works down to a sheet of magnetic substrate. Then I pulled out the scissors and started cutting. It wasn’t so bad as the shape was an oval and I was sure to leave a nice black outline on the print. Just stay within the lines and it turned out ok. If I were to do it agian, I would make the shape a rectangle…then just slice out the magnets instead of hand cutting each one.

It is a specialty vinyl…It is acutally a holographic vinyl. I havn’t used it before but I saw a sample at my suppliers…And it looks good! I actually had to touch it to make sure it didn’t have the texture on it. Very 3D looking.

Right now I am using a retired butchers table. It is from a deli and is constructed plenty sturdy for anything I am using it for. It has some type of white plastic (cutting board) material on it about .5 inch thick. It takes deep cuts from the knife quite well.

My nieghbor gave it to me…so I don’t know how much help that would be to you. I don’t know where you would even find something like this. 😉

Thanks for the comments…and I am glad I came to check on this post…I didn’t realize how bad that avatar picture was!!! So i replaced it with a better one.

I am glad to give any info on what I have learned so far about the VersaCAMM. I don’t have alot of experience to compare it to. But I know what I like and don’t like. And I am learning what clients like and don’t like.

Let me see if I can drum up some pictures of some graphics I have done.

Here is a cut vinyl job I did on our family car:

Here is a partial wrap I recently finnished and I did the cartoon cricket too, by backgound is actually in animation…this whole printing/design thing is new to me:

I have been using a material here in the States from this company

    http://www.beacongraphics.com

I have had great results with my VersaCAMM. The colors look abit muted, but once you heat press them, they really pop! The shirts look great. I am working on another order of shirts this week.
