Hey, I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I will hopefully be on this board often, as I have found it quite useful already. I am a graphic designer working in Arizona (USA). I recently purchased a Roland VersaCAMM to carry out my passion in vehicle graphics. I am just getting started with the large format print thing…I have always worked strictly with cut vinyl.

Hope I can bug all of you with my many questions!
    Thanks,
    JD Winters

    Hi and welcome JD 😀

Loads of info on here about printing on vinyl (which I don’t pretend to fully understand yet) and I’m sure you’ll find it a useful resource. Would love to see some of your work 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

Thanks for the comments…and I am glad I came to check on this post…I didn’t realize how bad that avatar picture was!!! So i replaced it with a better one.

I am glad to give any info on what I have learned so far about the VersaCAMM. I don’t have alot of experience to compare it to. But I know what I like and don’t like. And I am learning what clients like and don’t like.

Let me see if I can drum up some pictures of some graphics I have done.

Here is a cut vinyl job I did on our family car:

Here is a partial wrap I recently finnished and I did the cartoon cricket too, by backgound is actually in animation…this whole printing/design thing is new to me:

Nice work JD 😀 Both jobs are great!! So did you actually design the cricket yourself? He looks good!!

Your new avatar looks fine, not that I saw the last one so can’t comment on previous …. at least you have a human looking mouth unlike some on here …….. Dewi!!! :lol1: 😉

I used Cast Avery EZ. And for an overlam, I used the Avery Cast 1005 laminate. The installation went fairly well…not perfect. The client is very happy with it. But we noticed a few spots where it is pulling back a bit. I think it is a mixture of 2 reasons.

    a. I installed some of the wrap wet. (I am an beginner what can I say)
apparently EZ doesn’t like to get wet.

    b. We found some wax residue near the windows and we think the truck may not have been cleaned thouroughly enough. But for the most part it turned out nice. And he feels like he got a deal.

Yes, I designed every graphic used in this wrap (logo, cricket, signs). They are all vector images so they are as sharp as can be. I also printed them high res, and have since learned that that is not nesissary. I am glad about that too, because…this thing took forever to print. That is by far my #1 problem with the versaCAMM….The Speed!

-I have a question, what do I need to do to gain access to the other forums. Like the one with the instructional video on how to to wraps?

Thanks for any help, you guys are great!

Thanks for the info…So 49 pounds huh….I think that converts to like $70. Is the info within good enough that it is worth that? I am really thinking about it. It looks like good topics.

    Thanks for the comments.

As for Jill, :bike; A JD is a JD through and through.
