    Hi Mike.
Go to Google & type in FRIDGE + MAGNETS + UK
A whole bunch of things came up when I tried it.
    Love…Jill

Why does the obvious always occur last

    Mike,

You can print and cut magnetic material on the edge so if youre not after thousands then this might be an economical way to produce them. Give me a pm if you want a price.

Thanks for that. Must admit I have used a Gerber Edge but not realised it will print and cut magnetic.

The job is via another company so if he comes back I will contact you for a price – I think the total required was about 150.

    Thanx again

this maybe a daft one.. something i keep reminding myself to look into, but!……. magnets strip the memory from chips etc found in computers.
when we bought a pc60 years ago i always remember saying.. i could run the magnetic panel through the machine and print right onto the material. also actualy printing a hair line for cutting with stanley knife once removed.
when i said that to the rep (a while back now) he said NO! DONT BE DAFT!
he echoed my thoughts that magnets strip chips of memory. then said Anchor Magnets had special built rooms in their factory to house their computers based on this theory…?
ok so maybe times have moved on and im being daft, but would appreciate someone telling me i am wrong? 😕
ide hate to be spreading this word and making a clown of myself 😳 😳 😳 😆 😆 😆

or has that been done already? 😆 😆

We used to do magnets , but I never used that magnetic material (its pretty pricey and doesnt always work well , falls off or curls). I used ABS or styrene as a backing (cnc cut , die cut or laser cut)and then printed and cut a decal and applied.
We DO do a fair amount of magnets on our laser , but the material used is a brushed gold/silver that laser engraves black and is cuttable by the laser , but this type of magnet looks the right stuff and ppl are amazed that its actually engraved into the material , but it isnt cheap (Lasermag material from Rowmark or Spectrum) It also doesnt stick that well however.
We used whats called an isotropic magnet , its a much stronger magnetic material in a sort of hard compressed thickish disc of material (not the same as the magnetic rubber strip stuff) , cost 3 pence each and sticks like crazy .
I HATE fridge magnets , my nice fridge door is totally messed up and scratched cos my 7 yr old daughter has stuck about 5 zillion of em on it and she plays with them!!!
Robert , the magnetic field of that material is not really strong enough to erase or damage the electronics in the machine , the problem isnt the magnetism , its the fact that the material sticks to the machines metal covers as its going thru , you need a sprocket fed material/printer or to make a perspex “flatbed” attachment to use it.
I have stopped doing magnets these days , mostly its promotional houses that want em and they dont want to pay for quality , so profits vs the amount of work you have to do is disproportionate. The massive runs (get a magnet free with every bottle of xyz type stuff) are all brought in from china at prices you cant even get the material for.
I find it amazing that folk still think that giving out 10 000 pieces of c–p is better PR than giving out 1000 pieces of quality to a targeted market.
If I get a cheap keytag , I either throw it away , use it for the outhouse keys and even if its free , I think the donor is cheap!!! Kinda like thinking handing out a zillion leaflets printed on paper one grade above govt issue toilet tissue at the robots is gonna enhance your business – it actually works out REALLY expensive as the response rate to such advertising is very very low compared to other types.
We get a lot of enquiries for promotional items and try advise clients that .9mm abs rulers where the print comes off after using it for a day is not what they really want- but to no avail 🙂

Magnets wont erase memory or chips – they can however erase hard discs and floppies ( as the information is stored on the discs magnetically ), which is probably why they have a seperate room.

Any very strong field like magnetism, microwaves or radio waves can disrupt circuitry, which is why some electronic things need shielding.

Microchips ( in simple terms ) are just lots of transistors made by fiddling with silicon wafers stuck in a plastic box, so there isnt much going on in there to be spoiled by a magnetic field.

You could probably upset one with a HUGE magentic field, but not the kind of thing you’d get off of fridge magnets.

    Hi Mike

If you are still looking for fridge magnets, feel free to give us a call. Could probably get you some samples and literature out in the post this evening.

    Kind Regards

    Alex.

I recently did some promotional fridge magnets. I just printed (with my VersaCAMM) to vinyl, laminated, then applied the works down to a sheet of magnetic substrate. Then I pulled out the scissors and started cutting. It wasn’t so bad as the shape was an oval and I was sure to leave a nice black outline on the print. Just stay within the lines and it turned out ok. If I were to do it agian, I would make the shape a rectangle…then just slice out the magnets instead of hand cutting each one.
