    Tim,

you have illustrator… use the trace function to turn your bitmap into an vector… as long as you bitmap is of reasonable good enough quality you’ll get a good quality vector representation of the artwork to cut.

Laminating is easy with any bit of kit, be wary of spending too much for bells and whistles that arn’t of any real use except to relieve you of cash.

Like Matt, we have a very simply – inexpensive cold laminator from easymount. does what it’s meant to do exactly. Any and all errors are purely operator based… ie:
laminie, (the piece to be laminated) not fed in straight – can be a real disaster!
Back tension: keep reasonable tension on laminate and laminie – can easily be done by hands.

Also easymount spares etc are easy to get from Vivid, I think that’s their name.

    Dave,

Fasttyre is a material developed for the labels they apply to new tyres – next time you get a set of tyres try and pull the label off… impossible due to the special adhesive.

    Great stuff for specific applications.

I have material arriving today and I’ll try be experimentation!! Any one got a spare white coat??

I’ll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again,

Clarity is essential and I like the layout. One other wee point, confidence and perceptions go a very long way with the customer…

    Hi John,

Some years ago I did a course on Pad printing with Tampo in Germany. One of the "new" types of pads they developed was for printing footballs with logos and custom info. Do a search for Tampoprint in Germany, also I came across a French company called thermoflan who do this sort of stuff as well.

Hope this points you in the right direction, let me know if I can help with any other info.

    Cheers,

    Check this site out… http://www.advancedartist.com/
They supply basic and advanced tutorials on Corel, really excellent!
you can order the DVD discs and they’ll be delivered in a couple of days… brilliant stuff with videos etc. It will show you step by step to recreate everything in corel from vectors to bit maps. I’ve had the X3 copy and recently ordered the X4 for my staff.

For what it’s worth, I was going to purchase an ezytaper but I did hear from a service engineer I know well that they give a few problems. Since then I have seen the Table laminator from williams… Wow this machine is the business and really simple to use.

    David,

There is a polyprop material with a rubber adhesive on the back, it’ll stick to anything even shoe rubber or tyres, we make the signs on normal white pvc and laminate onto this material and the plot using the summa opos. It’s available from a uk supplier, I can dig the details out if you require.

    Hi Martin,

Thanks, and yes I have read the tutorial… I don’t have sufficient space for this type of rack, the one I’m looking for has all the rolls held on posts coming strait out from the wall. So in a 74" x 32" wall space i can store 44 rolls.

    Thanks,

    HI There,

Just for your info: I have an Easymount… it less that two years old and one of the pressure bearing just broke on me. Anyway on further investigation the outside housing of the waste take up bearing is just seated in the metal housing…. in fact this means there is no ball bearing just metal on metal… mmmm I think you most definitly get what you pay for.

I’d have a very close look at all moving parts and assemblies to check if they’ll survive the test of time.
As a comparison… have you seen what a Gerber looks like on the inside??

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply, however I came across that one…
What I’m trying to do is get a BS colour conversion to Pantone so I can produce spectratone colours on an Edge for a job I have. There are only a couple of BS colours… You just might know them from the BS4800 series..
    BS 14C39. BS 08E51. BS 18E53

    Thanks,

    Hi Micháel,

Just one wee bit of info re web domains, If you want to be found by people searching in Ireland you have a far higher ranking if you use a .ie than a .com or . biz this also applies to the UK for the .co.uk domain.

There is also the psychological impact… would you click on a website selling signs if it was a .ca rather than a .ie??

There is a lot of advice re this on the web if you need it.

February 4, 2005 at 10:42 pm in reply to: Does any know where I can obtain Illustrator color swatches

    Hi Nik,

I’m looking for a illustrator file that has the Avery series color swatch in it. Basically so the Color used in the file and the proof matches the color of the vinyl used.

Perhaps I’m loosing the plot but I printed some proofs on a color laser and the shade was a million miles away from what the vinyl really looked like.

I did find the file for Dura Chrome on one site, but cannot find anything for Avery.

    🙁
