I think an important feature you need to look at, I dont think anyone has mentioned(only brushed through the posts) You may want to buy one with an optical "eye". This is for detecting registration marks on digital prints. This means you can get a digital print from another sign company then contour cut around the images automatically. Or instead of upgrading to a print and cut machine, you can just buy a digital printer, then use the cutter to contour cut around the prints.usually a few hundred extra when bought new. Worth mentioning to the rep.
I have a Summa T60 and Graphtec CE1000. Summas broke once Graphtec will not break. I like new toys and Im always looking for an excuse to buy one. But they wont break. Most work is done on the 610 wide cutter.

Brilliant, thanks Robert. Amazingly Iam using a Red background and Yellow letters ! So Iam going to use regular vinyl for this one, halfs the price of material. Which I will pass on to the client (friend). Iam taking your advice on the letters and I’m going to leave a white gap around the letters to show the white light through. You guys are a great resource, thanks ever so much. Where can I post a picture of the finished product ? I’ll be finishing tommorrow. Cheers.

Thanks a lot Peter. I get it, so I don’t need to leave gaps to show the light through if I use translucent vinyl. Cheers mate, much appreciated. I’ll order some in tommorrow.

Hi Marcus, I started with a city and Guilds course at Preston College. Have a look at your local colleges for courses. It was a really quick and easy way into the industry. The teacher was superb and lined me up with all his contacts and suppliers. I use his layout advice and techniques to this day, 8 years on.

Hi there, I started with a college course at Preston college, It was invaluable to my entry into signmaking. The teacher had been in the industry for over 25 years. He taught me from the basics in hand painting to vinyl. I used him for advice on my first machine and he gave me all the suppliers of everything. Expect to waste a lot of vinyl to start with, see it as an investment in you craft. Good luck into this great way of earning a living, ill never be without a cutter.
