Ok, Bob. Hope the water’s not too deep!
PB240 is a specific for HDU. It increases it’s own volume 8 to 10 times. Hard clamping is not necessary as it does expand and allowing it to force itself into irregularities is very desirable.
Bonding HDU to a wood backing also works extremely well and permanently with PB240. You can even sand Dibond and use it for backing as well.
My son is almost done with his current carving. It involved laminating two pieces of 4″ thick HDU edge to edge, and it is now the strongest point of the entire carving.
No matter how thick your HDU may be, it’s important that you back it with MDO. PB240 and wood screws will make it permanent.
If your carving/sandblased project is to be a double sided 4″ affair, it it highly desireable to laminate two separate pieces of 2″ HUD with a center of Plywood or MDO.
Even our very large, thick murals ALWAYS have a 3/4″ MDO backing.

Sorry, the name is “GLISTEN PC”, not Crystal.

If you use “Crystal PC” you’ll only have to polish it once and then never again. You can read about it at http://www.por15.com
It’s a one time application for any and all highly polished metals. My son just used it on his new “monster truck” stainless shock absorbers. Sets up hard as a rock and aluminum, brass, copper, stainless or any other polished metal will stay that way permanently.

Gray, I get the majority of my layout, artwork and illustrating done in the first few hours with no telepone calls or walk-ins. Since we’re "wholesale only", our customers know our hours and use email, fax or mail to send their job orders.
Our customers are primarily architects, general contractors and large corporations.
We’re not in the phone book and we never advertise or solicit work. We have a regular client base and have had for years.

Eddie, we open our studio at 5:am and close at 2:pm monday through friday. It takes 45 minutes to get from the studio to Lost Prairie and we then open the Recording Studio at 3:pm. I’m usually in bed by 9:pm at the latest and up again at 4:am.

Martin, go to http://www.stmariegraphics.com and take a look. All of the carvings there are commercial carvings, or, in other words, a very large sign/carving combination.

The only paints we use now on our carvings are all water based paints. We overcoat with a one-part clear from POR15 called Pelucid. I don’t know if it’s available in GB, but you can go on their website at http://www.por15.com and contact a rep.
Colors stay clear, bright and maintenance free for years. At least they have for the 7 or so years we’ve been using it.
I haven’t tried the new SF3, but I would suppose that SF and PB both will work well for you.

Robert, I used wood for years, but now I use Precision Board. The 18 and 22 pound are as dense as wood is anyway, but it carves much better. No grain inconsistencies.

Actually, on the page with a lot of carving cameos there are a large number of them that went extremely fast and paid somewhere around $185 an hour to accomplish. Unless there’s true dimensional artwork (illustrating type) involved, it’s MUCH easier than you think.
I’ll plan a quick seminar on "how-to" even if you’re not remotely a carver.
I’ll email you a few of the more interesting ones for your gallery. That cool?

Thanks, Gray! This board is very refreshing. Diverse interesting folks here. I’ll probably be hanging out here from now on. I think my daughter is joining today.
