How do you polish your brass plaques/signs – help please?
Hello all,
Just a quickie 😮
How do you get a nice polished finish on your brass plaques/signs. We have sentrifugal and rumbling equipment for polishing the brass pet tags but you can’t put anything bigger than about 50mm x 30mm in it or it will bend. Any ideas??

beats me andy. we do engraving but are far from experts at it…
we always manage to get great results but not qualified enough to give out tips etc… sorry mate 😥 -

If you use “Crystal PC” you’ll only have to polish it once and then never again. You can read about it at http://www.por15.com
It’s a one time application for any and all highly polished metals. My son just used it on his new “monster truck” stainless shock absorbers. Sets up hard as a rock and aluminum, brass, copper, stainless or any other polished metal will stay that way permanently. -

Sorry, is Glisten PC available in any UK stores? Also, is there any additional products needed for preparation etc?

There is a company called Frost who supply a lot of tools and materials to the car restoration market, I think you’ll find that they stock it (http://www.frost .co.uk) they’re in Lancashire.
Of course the material has to be polished first, do you engrave onto brass with a polished face? I can’t think of an easy or quick way of polishing without a lot of very tedious handwork involving several grades of emery cloth and oil and filthy hands 😀

Hi guys,
Here is a photo of 4 brass plates I painted with 1 coat of glisten PC back in November. Obviously it is tarnished
quiet badly. Did it need another coat or am I better off not using it anymore? I’ve got a very dissatisfied customer
so any help would be much appreciated.

Porter cable do a great buffer. It works really well on metals and painted surfaces. For regular polishing you cannot beat a clean with Brasso.
Your client cannot have a sign like that and expect it to be maintenance free. Everything requires cleaning even signs and plaques.

We use brasso on our letters. The only way you can get brass not to tarnish would be to lacquer it using clear gloss

hair lacquer (hairspray) will help keep the shine for longer and will polish off.
also good for raw aluminium as you see at trade shows for trusses etc, stops people getting those black marks on their nice white shirts
