    USE THE DRY METHOD:
Position and tape down the top edge with masking tape
Long text lines can now be cut up into sections without any separation
flip over and remove backing paper
flip back one section at a time and smooth with squeegee

It’s easy you can even do one or two letters at a time if you need practice
and this way the job can go straight out without any worry of letters peeling or sliding – even in ice cold conditions

We only use app spray for large printed decals say 8ft x 4ft together with a laminating machine with the rollers set at warm.

I am more concerned about the actual fire ratings together with the current building regulations – I am under the impression that you can ONLY now supply materials to public buildings such as schools, hospitals etc which meet BS 476: Part 7 with a MINIMUM of Class 0 or Class 1

Acrylic Cast is only Class 3
    Polycarbonate is Class 1

Please follow this link I have recently stumbled on: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/efd/maintenance/fi … TN_073.pdf

If this is the case then this information needs to be passed on to ALL fellow uksignboards members – as this could be costly if past jobs have
to be recalled or dare I say sign companies could be prosecuted !!! If they have specified the wrong materials

Basically the only good thing is there is no need for a engineer for this as it’s as simple as changing an ink cartridge an a desktop printer – you go to the menu on the machine select ‘change print head’ the carriage moves part way out and you take out the old one and pop in the new one.

I tried to ‘trick’ it by putting back in the old one – this didn’t work

so I phoned technical at canon who stated there’s no way round it I would have to buy a new head at £405 + VAT

I searched ebay – non available, I search google I could have saved £25 here though I thought I may as well go back to canon as if I have any trouble I would have some type of guarantee. Still think I been had though as if the head was allowed to run till it breaks or even if it broke when the time limit kicked in I would have felt better.

Also if they have to build this for reasons I’m not aware of – WHY is the replacement head so expensive ???

Same thing happened to me though Bolton council wanted £500 – they say
it’s to handle added phone calls of people complaining while the work is in progress – (well don’t answer the phone then).

I just did the work at 2am and let them work out how we got the signage up there – if they ask just say you put VHB tape on the back, galloped along on your horse and threw it up there.

Just remember they don’t work a FULL day unlike us signfitters

you don’t need to create a fill to SINGLE line fonts, just select it & go to plot menu (not the scissor symbol on the tool bar) there you will see a tick next to engrave un-tick then re-tick again, and a second window will pop up there you can either select to: cut fill / cut outline / or cut both

you normally cut fill when working with true type etc leaving the cut outline un-ticked so you don’t add unreq’d thickness to the lettering

just remember to use the plot command from the top menu not the scissor from the toolbar as this doesn.t bring up the options

    Have fun

Try Mclink the website is http://www.graphiplan.co.uk also check out the maintenance contract you won’t believe how cheap it is, we’ve used them for our JV3 they changed the heads at no extra charge, no quibbles and was with us in 30 mins from us reporting the fault.
I’ve had a jetster prior to the mimaki had loads of trouble with clogged heads so a contract would be best for this machine

I have just purchased a system 48 cnc router, as anyone ever updated
one of these – the problem I have is it came set up with a very old pc and the
only way the get files in is via the floppy disc that doesn’t work and the new floppy drives don’t fit due to the pins at the back, I have put the hard drive into a newer PC though I seem to have trouble with the com port as the machine stops part way though and crashes, I can’t transfer the Gerber port card as this is ISA or Vesa local bus type and all computers have PCI slots – I am prepared to spend as it didn’t cost me much I would even consider buying a brand new control box if one is available as I would like to run from Signlab if possible – Any Suggestions ?????
