Can PERSPEX be used for in schools, hospitals government buildings etc for notice boards in corridors, screens etc or has the regulations changed that you can only use polycarbonate. Is there any information available on the web regarding this so we can keep on record? (?) (?) (?)

Make sure if you are using Perspex that it is CAST and not the extruded version, they both burn but the ext version gives off a heavy black smoke and has a worse fire rating than the cast. Most public places like shopping centres and hospitals will prob look a fire cert on this.

If you goto my web site i have all the spec sheets for Perspex there. http://www.mcmordiebros.co.uk and follow the link to PERSPEX

I am more concerned about the actual fire ratings together with the current building regulations – I am under the impression that you can ONLY now supply materials to public buildings such as schools, hospitals etc which meet BS 476: Part 7 with a MINIMUM of Class 0 or Class 1

Acrylic Cast is only Class 3
    Polycarbonate is Class 1

Please follow this link I have recently stumbled on: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/efd/maintenance/fi … TN_073.pdf

If this is the case then this information needs to be passed on to ALL fellow uksignboards members – as this could be costly if past jobs have
to be recalled or dare I say sign companies could be prosecuted !!! If they have specified the wrong materials

What you have posted covers certain high risk areas that either have to be transited or provide no other means of escape. As the diagram indicates ONLY Class 1 and 0 items are acceptable within the red marked area. This therefore would allow other classes of materials to be used out with. There is scope for you to use Class 1 and 0 throughout on a project as "best practice" and highlighting you meet and excede fire regs.
