T.G.I Friday’s Re-brand with Active Signs

Part of the Whitbread Group, T.G.I. Fridays has chosen corporate ID specialist sign manufacturer Active Signs to re-brand its out-of-town and inner-city sites. The contract was secured following a stringent tender process and was based on Active’s design, project management and value engineering capabilities. The project required the production of a number of sign variants, including profile-shaped totem units, illuminated moulded acrylic wall sconces, entrance feature canopies with downward illumination to provide a red wash of light over entrances, high-level partially-illuminated roof signs with diagonal strip corporate branding and feature wall signs which were constructed with a grp background to simulate an African slate tile effect superimposed with open-trough letters and outline red neon tubing.

As the letters were at low level, they were fitted with clear high-impact acrylic faces to prevent vandalism. The low-level feature signs varied in size. In some cases the grp panelling was 12 metres long by 2.5 metres high, accommodating 1,600 mm-high letters. Active was also responsible for project managing all decoration works for external feature wall areas and the perimeter fascia boards which were in turn superimposed with outline neon tubing. Active also coordinated all additional electrical works as well as the replacement of static and motorised blinds.

An Active spokesman commented: “Working on this project has provided the company with a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate a number of traditional skills and new-age manufacturing techniques. It also gave our project team the opportunity to demonstrate their site co-ordination skills in operating as the principal project contractor.” Following the success of the T.G.I. re-brand programme, Active Signs is currently employed by Whitbread as part of a team carrying out the Nationwide re-branding of Premier Travel Inn.
