Thanks.

quote John Childs:Method A. Left to right. But then I am left handed.
Method B (preferred). Get somebody else to do it. 😀
Funnily enough I said to my wife "this is one of those jobs apprentices and YTS lads must dread"

quote Graeme Harrold:anyway if you rotated the flames through 180 degrees, you could have done it right-to-left!!! Also depends if you are left or right handed too……….
Beat you to it, I stated that in my original post :lol1: :lol1:
Like I said, its not an important question, just one of those things that a newbie thinks about when learning.
I used a stanley knife, what are weeding tools like?

Just an update. Tonight I uninstalled everything my mate did yesterday and started from scratch, following the online guide to the letter……It worked fine with Flexisign and has cut a few test pieces a treat.
I dont want to sound like a total fool, but what do you mean by the blade offset?

Ive had one of these lying in the house for a month now and last night decided to try and set it up. To say the instructions are all over the place is an understatement and the drivers are as good as useless.
In the end after 3 hours of me and a mate tearing our hair out we gave in. We used the latest driver, installed the Flexisign patch, but no matter what we did Windows could not read the drivers. We checked the device manager in Windows XP and the driver was there just with an error message saying that it couldn’t read them.
I’m going to try to contact Sign Wizard today where I bought it from, but it looks like all their technical support is through the forum, which I find very irritating.
I think I’m old fashioned but I like to talk to someone on the telephone when dealing with problems as constant email/forum ping pong rarely seems to get the job done.
Its true that you get what you pay for, ill have another go tonight then it will be going on eBay and a better package will be purchased.

quote Peter Normington:quote Paul Humble:Are we talking about all dates or just the ones AFTER we left school?
first date, I would classify as the first time you met a member of the opposite sex (or to be PC same sex) that you fancied, or vice versa, and had made a prior arrangement to meet,
so in school or after leaving, no matter,
can you remember your first love?Peter
First love is a difficult one as we all think our first Girlfriend is our first love, but as for first pre-arranged date it was with Catherine (I forget her surname), I was 13 years old and her family asked me along for our Sunday Lunch and a Toby Carvery in Sunderland. It was all VERY posh to me at the time as I was normally rolling in mud/dog dirt/grass etc. I think I made a lasting impression by basically eating far too much then undoing my belt buckle to let my newly found girth have room to move!
It didn’t last long!
Now, as for Love, everyones perception is different. I met my Wife in 1994, married in 2000, had a lovely daughter in 2006 and separated in 2007. 8 months later I realised that true love isn’t a myth as I understood what I had lost by almost losing her and we are now due to move back in together.
Not wanting to get too serious on a light topic, but as a 31 year old man I have now taken the decision to get off Shift Work (I have a good paying job I’m about to quit) and do something that interests me where I can spend time with my family.

Ah, right away I find FE Mittelschrift, a DIN font.
Marvelous!

quote John Childs:Paul,
Finished article. Just open them in your choice of software and start designing.
I dont understand the post John, am I missing something (sorry). Thanks for the help regardless.

quote Peter Normington:You do not need a vehicle outline, just measure on of your mates cars.
I do loads of roofs for bmw, check out the mini site, some flags go to the edge, others have a border, but dont expect to compete unless your designs are unique, after market stickers for mini, are dirt cheap, and many people do them.
Peter
He’s told me if I can get the first one looking the business then he will guarantee me all his work, which is some promise as I am 100% new to it. He fits about 5 a week, not alot, but enough to be worth me doing. Things like the bonnet stripes are dirt cheap but he literally buys hundreds per year.
Your help is much appreciated guys, very friendly bunch here!

Thanks Robert but do you mean he does the software I need or he does the finished item?
Thanks for the side-note too, as I mentioned my friend is a Mini Specialist so its ideal as I can play around and find a way of doing the roof decals that I’m happy with. The software is just a starting point to help me learn.

quote Robert Lambie:quote Neil Speirs:quote Robert Lambie:Do you mean a small hand held UV lamp is costing you the #500 pounds mate?
No :lol1:
neil, i have a stained glass business, which also includes diamond bevel clusters and the like. these bevels are adhered to the glass using a special UV adhesive that cures in seconds once a powerful uv light has been applied.
i looked at buying one years back and it was around 400 quid for a small hand held one… i also had to wait a week on the delivery. i had a large job in at the time and couldn’t wait. what i did was got an old (top side only) sunbed with wooden carcus. flipped it on its back and screwed a clear sheet of acrylic to the face. i then made sturdy legs for it and i then had a nice table to work on whilst working on my glass. once i had the crystal bevels in place. i simply flicked a switch and the whole table illuminated. 10 seconds later all the glass clusters are cured and onto the next lot. cost me virtually nothing to build it. just thinking it might be an idea for you and save a bit of cash?Ive been doing showplates for a short time now and really want to go to the next step (I love the whole design structure), ive been spending hours trawling through information online on how to set about doing my ideas………THEN something like this idea comes along, blows me away with the simplicity and I start wondering if im cut out to do this as a profession!!
Do you still use this table? I was always told the simple ideas are the best!
Amazing!

Well done, I’ve donated a small amount and sorry it couldn’t be more.

MemberMarch 4, 2008 at 11:06 pm in reply to: can anyone advise on which roland to go for please?quote Russell:£5K can get you a decent second user if you know where to look, people on here have suggested a second user uniform cadet etc with 3-6 months warrenty.I have just bought a 74″ second user grenadier for £5K with a full 12 months warenty and an extra £500.00 got me a copy of Troop 6 RIP.
Much better machine than cadet as 6 colour and faster, if that is to wide for your mini roofs they are doing the 54″ version for the same price, this machine has the cut facility is this is something you may want.
Both machines are converted Rolands so should suit you perfectly.
Where can you get these, you need to contact B & P Lightbrigade.
Regards
Russell.
Thats superb Russell, thanks very much, just emailed them.

What kind of budget should I realistically be setting for a printer that meets my requirements?Used…£8-£10k with RIP software and 3-6 months warranty & a days training…and probably another £1k (cold) – £2.5k (hot) for a laminator. Really a ‘must’ for commercially viable vehicle prints.
So there are companies that supply used machines and still give you training on the machine?

My full time job is at an Oil Storage Terminal where this issue has raised its head many times in the past.
You would be amazed at how many companies give Contractors a Safety Induction then issue them with a sticker to put on their hat to say they have been inducted.
I cant see it having a massive affect on the integrity of the hat but unfortunately in this day and age its just another way of manufacturers waiving and issues that arise through third party alteration of their equipment.
If you follow the letter of the law you are effectively interfering with Safety Equipment and a whole can of worms can be opened if people dug deep enough following an issue. I would be tempted to just issue a small letter advising the company in question to check before attaching the stickers, very few will bother but then at least you are covered.

Signed without hesitation. Theres a difference between carrying a Swiss Army Knife and a 14" blade.
Too much of this going on in the UK these days.

quote J. Makela:Whatever software you’re using to create the graphic will have a color picker of some sort. There you can find the CMYK breakdown of whatever color you choose. (C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow, K=Black, the 4 most common base colors used in printing) For example, if you were going to print a purple, the breakdown might be:
C: 50
M: 100
Y: 0
K: 0Or, if you were printing yellow, it might read:
C: 0
M: 0
Y: 100
K: 0Often the breakdown isn’t that simple, but you get the idea. Somewhere in your design interface is a window or palette where you can see color breakdowns of any color you choose to use in your graphics. I think Tim is asking for the CMYK breakdown of the color you’re having problems with..?
Just a guess.
Ah I see, ill have a look tonight and let you know.
Thanks for the help and sorry to hijack the thread.

Sorry, im Paul from Sunderland in the UK. I will be a paying member very soon, if not just for the video tutorials which look excellent.

quote Tim Painter:Was just asking about the CMYK values you were specifying in the software.
I dont know about Dave, but im new to this and dont really know what you mean. Id be grateful of an explanation though. Thanks
-
quote Tim Painter:Out of curiosity what are the CMYK values you are using for the blue?
I havent touched the factory settings on the printer, just the software.
-
quote Chris Wool:out of interest is this just a problem to that printer.
i have just printed a blue 260mm sq on to transparency with my 9600 and its as it should bechris
AFAIK it seems to be. I can print small blocks of blue (ie number plate banners) but I cant print a large block of colour or it fades to purple. Its quite annoying as the printer was bought largely for printing mandatory signs, which are blue!
I would ask for reccomendations of other printers but I think (if ive read rules right) that this isnt allowed.
-
I would be keen to know how you get on too, I have exactly the same problem.
