  • can anyone advise on which roland to go for please?

Im looking to invest in a Roland printer cutter for doing car graphics specifically for Minis (at the minute). The kind of thing I want to do is bonnet stripes, roof graphics and that kind of thing.

I want a Roland specifically as I have heard good reports about them but any advice from people currently using one on which one to get would be greatly appreciated.

I have around the £5000 mark and the maximum width would be around 48".

Don’t limit yourself to Roland although they are a good make.

eg. Uniform do the Cadet – a rebuilt & re-badged Roland Versacamm for full solvent inks.

For £5k you might find yourself being limited to either a ‘well worn’ machine or something a bit smaller than 48" / 54" if you want a warranty…and RIP software…and a bit of training!

Sorry but I think you are unlikely to get a decent machine that is big enough to print a design for Mini roof on that budget. That kind of money will get you a 2nd user 760mm wide Versacamm, Cadet or JV3. Would have thought 760mm too narrow for a Mini Roof though? You may get a 54" Resolve for that kind of money, but the resolution isn’t the best. And it will be Donkeys years (in printer terms) old. You may also have to factor a laminator into your budget too? Would save a bit more money if it’s something you are serious about! 😉

I appreciate the swift replies and suggestions. What kind of budget should I realistically be setting for a printer that meets my requirements?

Used…£8-£10k with RIP software and 3-6 months warranty & a days training…and probably another £1k (cold) – £2.5k ( hot) for a laminator. Really a ‘must’ for commercially viable vehicle prints.

So there are companies that supply used machines and still give you training on the machine?

Yup! I bought ours from Signmaster.

    http://www.signmaster.co.uk/

Got a ‘trade-in’ machine as somebody was buying something a bit wider. Well maintained machine but even so, supplied with…2x new heads, new pump etc. etc….’last version’ software. Basically enough to get you up & running with minimal worries.

Fully set up plus 1 full day training given on-site…not just what is left of the first day.

This is good deal but a little narrow, nothing wrong with Mimaki stuff. That said, a wider machine should be a bit more pennies.

£5K can get you a decent second user if you know where to look, people on here have suggested a second user uniform cadet etc with 3-6 months warrenty.

I have just bought a 74" second user grenadier for £5K with a full 12 months warenty and an extra £500.00 got me a copy of Troop 6 RIP.

Much better machine than cadet as 6 colour and faster, if that is to wide for your mini roofs they are doing the 54" version for the same price, this machine has the cut facility is this is something you may want.

Both machines are converted Rolands so should suit you perfectly.

Where can you get these, you need to contact B & P Lightbrigade.

    Regards

    Russell.

Just noticed its £12.5k plus VAT and makes it quite a bit out of my price range.

Message to Harry Cleary who sent me a PM about delivery, £5000.00 includes delivery to UK mainland, you would have to talk to B&P about anywhere else.

Again this web site proves to be the most helpful and yet the most frustrating website in the world, I can recieve a PM yet can not reply to them, as usual you can ask any question you like but any answers have to be PMed or they get Mod Edit, so the comunity as a whole misses out on loads of info. Sad so close to good and yet so many rules stops it working. These restrictions do not stop the information getting to the originator, just the rest of the comunity.

    Best regards

    Russell.

    cheers Russell,
I think this place survives as it is, precisely because of the rules…..just look at how long people have been members. Quite simply….there is no other site like it. I would hate it if it was a ‘free for all’. And I think there might be a problem with your account if you cant reply to PMs as you are a gold member.
    Thanks for the info.

Harry, only UKSG members can use PM’s. A tad frustrating but that’s the rules.
