Wonderful bit of work Michael, would be interested in the media you used? Gold Acrylics are awesome for airbrushing and I have used Createx Auto Air for motorcycle murals. it’s OK for larger details but you can’t beat PPG for the detailed stuff.

Great portrait man, nice to see other airbrush art on the forum 🙂

So come on guys.. how was the exhibition then? Any pics? I supplied Listawood with some images from my site and would like to know if they were showing them on their products and if you saw any?

WOW! I am totally flattered you mentioned me and Mike L. in the same sentance, that is a very big compliment, thank you. He is a great inspiration to me. 🙂 How can I say no now?

Of course, it would be my pleasure (and I won’t have to pay then I guess? ;))

You talking about Poole in Dorset, Beej?

What’s this meet about? Striping ‘n’ air brush?

    John

Yes it’s Poole in Dorset. It’s a Pinstriping meet and tutorial. Here is info from prosign1.com’s website (I am positive I put the link here last night but someone has edited it out? (why?):

Neil has been striping commercially for at least 15 years in the UK ,the USA, Australia and Europe and has met many great stripers. We have invited a few along…

Jon Leeson from Leicester is a fantastic pinstriper and signwriter , and will be attending the Leicester workshop.

Artie Schilling from New Jersey….[.who Neil striped with at Bike Week in Myrtle Beach .S.C] and who runs a sign and striping shop in South Carolina……will attend one workshop.

Peter Anthony is a top Aussie signwriter, designer and striper , who now lives in surrey ….will hopefully come to a couple

    £110 for the day

    Hi chaps,

Neil is holding some meets this month and I’m considering going to the Poole one. I think they are more workshops than jams but what the hell! I’m dying to pull some lines with someone who actually knows what he’s doing 🙂

There were some very luvverly ladies there at the show, I’m surprised they didn’t show any!

I’ve just been reading up on the VersaCamm – wow!! Now THAT’S what I need! Do they make something smaller? There surely must be a cheaper way to print onto vinyl these days? £9k seems a big budget to me and although it would give me the advantage to do lots more stuff, it’s still a lot of dosh.

Any advice anyone?? Or is it just finance or save situation!! 🙁

Thanks for your response fellas, really helpful.

I’m planning to to get helmets directly from the manufacturer (doing a deal at present) so I’ll check with them. Right, if it seems I can’t print the ink onto a vinyl myself (with the Epson 1290) I may be interested in another company helping me out here. Can anyone send me info on prices off the board to give me a rough idea on costs?

I know it’s a bit ball park but I want to get it rolling in the next few months. I will be looking at kits but not really high volume (as the digital is great for this market) and it’s basically a new idea for me so I’m testing the water a bit. I also want to be able to airbrush around these stickers and then clear over them.

    Cheers

Barney, you make that sound easy but I’m sure it isn’t and I bet it won’t fit in the boot of my car!? yep, the Donny show is indoors.

    Cheers Dewi,

Yep, it’s all freehand, there’s some better pics on http://www.organicimage.com Airbrushed it wish Auto Air colours water-based paint and Iwata HP-BC. Moved into solvent-based more now as the createx is a bit difficult on really small details whereas solvents go mega fine through Iwata.

I could hire one but what’s the point? I foresee a few shows so I reckon it’s worth investing but they are just so damn expensive!! I need to find a way round that if poss.

(Thanks for the kind words about the paint :))

    Hi Sharon,

I got a sample from Novachrome and must say, the quality was outstanding. I read that the new SG IQ inks have solved any clogging issues and the colour balance was awesome from the file I gave Ian, the print quality too was excellent.

Still not seen something printed with Rotech, perhaps if I send you an image you could print me a sample Sharon? That would be a big help actually as I could see a direct comparison against the SG IQ one I have, it’s a placemat.

    Hi Sharon,

That’s the biggest issue for me right now.. which inks? Spoke to Ian at Novachrome today who says theirs are the best, (well he would I guess!) and I believe they use Sawgrass but I’ve heard they are the most expensive and read stories of inks clogging machines.

Like the combo idea but again, read some horror stories about the presses being tempramental. Kevin put me right on those points today so thanks to him and thanks to Russell for the contact.

Still scratching my head tho..hmmm, gotta make my mind up soon. I’ve also found a guy local to me selling Rotech inks and bulk systems at pretty good prices, I guess I’ll have to just get a pin and shut me eyes!!

    Thanks Jill,

I think there seems to be a real new ‘interest’ in custom work and pinstriping here. I’ve been a signwriter since 1980 altho I did get more into computers like a lot of us did, I’ve gone heavily back to paint/airbrushing and I really want to be proficient at striping. I figured that with years of signwriting experience, it would be easy to pickup! I was wrong!

Met some great airbrush artists at bike shows recently and they are all so busy so it must say something, sales of airbrushes in the last 10 months have gone up dramatically too apparently.

So come on fellow UK-ers, I’m in if you are.
