and that is the castle always wondered, is it privately owned or open to the public. Lovely looking place is it near you Neil?

Its about 20 miles or so from me and I did some signwriting there many moons ago.

It is called Castell Coch and is a late nineteenth-century ‘fairytale’-style castle, a folly, built on medieval remains, designed for the third marquess of Bute by William Burges. It is unbelievably decorated and furnished in a Victorian Gothic style with amazing paintwork to the walls and ceilings, it really has to be seen to be appreciated.

It’s open to the public and if your ever down this way again well worth a visit.

Sorry, there endeth the history lesson. 😀

    I think I’ve figured out what’s wrong..

..the England players keep passing the ball to each other – this goes on and on and nothing seems to happen at all. What they need to do is kick the ball at the oppositions goal. (They tried this a few times but missed or the goalie saved it). Maybe if they tried it a bit more often they would score a goal.

I’m sure Fabio Cappello realises this and has told the team.. but seeing as he can’t speak English and most of the England team can’t speak Italian perhaps the message isn’t getting through 😕

  • Matty Goodwin

Maybe if they gave the teams 22 balls to play with they all wouldn’t need to fight over the one ball………..? 🙄 🙄 🙄

Plenty inflated egos all round in the sport Ben! But some larger than others 😉 I think the high expectations England have is often their downfall and it’s not helped by all the media hype.
I really hope USA go through …… they deserve it after their match today. Brian, I agree, they were robbed.

    Shocking performance from England :shake:

It was embarrassing,, It was like they were playing together for the first time.
Capello should have changed the system after the first 20 minutes when it just wasn’t working.

But ultimately no spirit in the team just 10 confused looking players, with James having a pretty good game.

It’s going to be a hard game to watch on Wednesday 😕

What about poor ‘Kaka’ being sent off for Brazil…….absolutely shamefull, the IC player should be sent home and made an example of.

I wouldn’t mind but the ref didn’t even see it 😮

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q52HvF32ZCk

Brazil, looking good..not the usual flamboyant team we a re used to seeing, but will be hard to beat…..their second goal was dubious though 😉

yeah, that was the worst red card ever, the ref was looking away from them. I felt sorry for him.
Apparently yellow cards can’t be appealed and his is will stand as will the one game ban. 🙁 But the IC player should get a ban for his conduct when they have a look back at the incident.

  • Ben Childs

    Member
    June 21, 2010 at 11:21 am

I think these days FIFA are very reluctant to punish players retrospectively unless the ref makes mention of an incident in his report. In a big tournament like the WC they are not going to start publicly undermining the officials so no chance of punishment for IC player, nor turnover of ban for Kaka.

Besides this is why you take your 23 best players, if one is injured/banned then another takes the place. Harsh rules but that’s football for you!

Looks like I am going to lose my tenner on England reaching the final 🙁

Don’t give up hope just yet Ben, Many teams that have reached the semi’s and the final have played very poorly during group stages just scraping through…. 😉 A descent win on Wednesday will make all the difference.

Rivaldo was fined for this in 2002, but not banned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RKo_50sWW4

I guess what goes around comes around 😕

Marcella what a win 7-0…third goal was superb

Rivaldo deserved to be banned for that, absolutely disgusting simulation.

There is still hope but after all the media stories over the past few days I can’t see much hope, especially with Carragher now suspended. Leaves us with Dawson who has no international experience and Upson who played for a team that almost got relegated. Doesn’t fill me with confidence.

However I will be cheering them on regardless, lets hope the best player performs (Gerrard, not Rooney!! ) 🙂

I asked Fabio Capello if he thought England would go 4-4-2 today. He said "No, I think they will go 7-4-7, it’s bigger and offers more leg room." 😀

I’m not drunk, but, I think England have to win today to lift the country in the wake of the emergency Budget we had yesterday. No pressure then 😕

    Hi all
I’ve been in France for the last two weeks, when my wife booked it I nearly had a fit! But I gotta say there was ‘une petit peu entertainment’ watching it all in the home of the one armed bandits! 😀 😀

Come on New Zealand today! 😀

Welcome back Harry…..In France watching the World Cup 😮 how did it go down oout there

What really p1sses me off is that France wasted a place, Ireland what have given it a real shot at things and would have been far more entertaining to watch….

Also couldn’t believe Henry came on for about 20 minutes and still managed to hand ball again 😕

brilliant brilliant brilliant game by Slovakia…3-2 putting out Italy and going through themselves…shame New Zealand out but they were above Italy who finished bottom of the table…so glad I got to see that game!!

I was in Paris when the French went out on Tuesday . … 😮 Even yesterday when the Algerians went out the city was unhappy as there is a huge French/Algerian community there. Home today
    🙁

Knew the English would get through, I did say you would, but now you’ll HAVE to play good or your out on your ear! 😉

Delighted USA went through they so deserved it.

As for Italy ….. oh dear! The last 10 minutes of the match was tremendous, if the Italians had played like that from the start they wouldn’t be on the plane home!

And then there were 14….Congratulations to Ghana and to Uruguay for reaching the qtr finals.

England’s route in, thanks to USA’s 92nd minute goal > Germany > Argentina > Spain then Brazil in the final……simples 😕

4 -1, 20 minutes to go and you’ve got to admit Germany are class compared to England.

I feel sorry for all the English fans who traveled out to SA, maybe the England players should club together and reimburse the fans.

A shocking performance in the whole comp so far, how on earth they thought they’d win the World Cup is beyond me.

If I were English I’d feel so aggrieved against those overpaid bunch of prima donnas.

    Bye, Bye Fabio………….. 😀

    Think your right…Embarrassing as usual….

    Robbed of a goal tho…

Out of 64 million+ people in England surely we should be able to find 11 players who want, and who can, play football and earn £75k per week to kick a ball.

    😳 😳

Anyway back to Wimbledon..what about that 63-61 match in the last set..incredible.

I don’t think he’ll loose sleep over that Marcella..I can see him smiling from here.

All in all we were CRAP..defending a complete and utter shambbles, good on the German’s they should have won by more.

HOWEVER..if this isn’t a case for goal line technology I don’t know what is, a multi-multi million pound sport with decisions like that..incredible. Not that I think it would have made any difference 🙁

    What’s changed Dave?

Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Defoe – nearly 100 goals between them for their clubs last season…….

    ….what happened?

I felt sorry for Lampard, shocking decision. But it made no difference at all. England were pants. As usual full of expectation and arrogance then fell on their ar$e!!!

Come On Portugal! (actually I’d love to see Ghana win their next match 😀 )

Without a doubt England did equalise before half time. A poor decision by the referee not to allow the goal and why weren’t the linesmen consulted?

Germany always claimed that if they had not been awarded the goal against them in the 1966 final (which clearly did not cross the line then) they too would have had a different match.

Also – England played in Red and Germany in white in both games – spooky or what 😮
