John
Cheers john my bros splitty is on airbag suspension all round so can be raised or lowered any height. It also runs a decent motor with twin carbs etc. wish my bus was as fast.
So do you chaps have wet dreams about all this messed with iron?
shouldnt you consider getting a life 😀Peter
probably peter. lol :lol1:

quote Neil Wilkinson:Heres a wee pic of the faded style lettering i cut in vinyl for him so it looked old. what a pain it was to weed :lol1: and it was a family freebie job which is worse.
Yeah but it dont look right does it, its not faded, at all, not knocking you guys, but cant understand why you spend so much rebuilding a van, and modernising it, then trying to imitate an old look, I have every respect for an old original, I am married to one,
can you explain what the fascination is, with these vans?
to me they just look like octogenarians with a load of plastic surgery.Peter

:lol1: Peter you wouldnt understand . Its a dub thing …
-
Peter he pestered me for the sticker so i made it. some people try to make them look old as thats what they like . Who are we to question. Personally i prefer a nice shiney paintjob and thats why my van has one and went from a rusting wreck to a restored , painted , retrimmed finished van.
From this
to this which we use on a weekly basis and the kids love it like one of the family.

I had the gates but they were very poor. Still repairable, but really shot.

quote Paul Humble:Im surprised I never posted these pics. I owned this for about 6 months but moved it on. It was a RHD UK Crewie, very rare im told, but I really dont know Dubs.
That crew cab would be pure gold here in Oz mate.
The Gold Coast in Queensland has, I reckon, the largest number of old VW Kombi’s and Beetles, per capita that anywhere else in Oz. All young guys driving them for the most part. They are almost currency….
The last two kombis I had have been restored to original condition…. one is sitting in a private VW collection in Western Australia (1800cc microbus automatic) owned by a Dr, the other (2ltre microbus) has just finished touring the schools in queensland, teaching country kids the finer points of driving. It was owned my our state automobile club.
Peter, it is a dub thing mate.
I took my 71 superbug on a VW carnival day, and end to end they stretched for over 3 kilometres in single file down the M1.
Mine was tame (lowered, leather velour seats etc) compared to the majority. Beetles and Kombis with porsche motors etc…. Fantastic day.

Some great pics…Love them
I now wish I had kept a picture of mine, I loved it and drove it from Crawley to it’s new home near Glasgow …….. only got rid of it when it was making miss my early morning shifts……having to scrape the windows from the inside.
Back then I wanted a two tone wizard conversion in burgundy and cream.
There was a VW place in Crawley doing conversions must be about 20 years ago 😀 -

Sad news this week that the German coachbuilder Karmann has closed down with the loss of around 2000 jobs ……..they built several iconic VW’s……….the Karmann Ghia, convertible Beetle, Scirocco, Golf convertible etc……..

That’s a cracker Brian. Now you have made me jealous big time.
I hope you still got enough pennies left for beer money! 😎 😀 -
so who owns the ‘prosign’ dub van that passed me on the M25 sunday afternoon ??? (i was stuck in the slow lane behind a slooooow driver, having just joined from the M4 slip), i forget the colour, candy gold perhaps? took the M3 slip if i recall. i should remember more as we followed it for about 1-20miles!
looked nice!
-
I’m pretty sure an awesome pinstriper and signwriter and airbrusher and, well the list goes on, called Neil Melliard has a company called Prosign.
If I remember correctly he’s really into his VW’s
-
Neil, you are correct on all points. I have seen his van a few times at different shows. He often does pinstriping demos at the shows as well.
-
cheers lads, i was too busy cursing the slowbee who A, didn’t let me off the slip road by moving over into a near empty middle lane and B, trying to attain that fine balance tween retaining some momentum to overtake when the dub came past and not actually touching the car in front, to notice that it was a sign makers ride as it went past! only as i swung out behind it did i realise it was signed up!
can’t remember the exact colour but it certainly struck me as very nice!
-
He has pictures on his website of the VW’s he has and has done. Very nice work. Just google prosign.
Steve

This was my youngest son’s….. Although I done all the work!
-
My eldest son, imports and restores old VW’s. He has quite a few at his workplace now. He has a stupidly low 1970 1 owner low milage Beetle.
-
Wow – you don’t see many of those – a Beetle with a split screen oval. Very rare indeed and must be worth a fotune 😀
