Quick, Cheap, Banner frame.

Needed a banner frame at short notice before the holiday period began, so we came up with the following.

Basically, it is a 32mm push-fit plastic wastewater pipe with appropriate T and 90-degree pieces to form the frame. You get it from B&Q and all the other DIY stores. You get it in black, white and grey. It takes seconds to cut and assemble. You could use the traditional type that you join with glue – I guess this would make it more rigid but it would take slightly longer to make up.

This banner was 12 feet x 2 feet and the frame took about 30 minutes to make for £13 worth of materials. To mount it I used the regular plastic pipe clips mounted on wooden 2”x2” stakes. The banner is fixed into the frame using regular cable ties, with two at each corner. I made the frame about 15mm larger all around so I could tension the banner with the cable ties.

The only thing I would do differently is put the vertical pipes at 2’ intervals to match up with the banner eyelets. I reckon you should put a post with pipe clips every 3-foot.

It’s surprisingly strong for how lightweight the whole assembly is.

Remember you saw it here first.
