Is it possible to change the zooming feature to
zoom to ‘selected’ instead of it going to the page
    Does that make sense
    cheers

    Glenn has the easy one

right click the tool bar edge and tick zoom tools
place the now new floating tool bar to the side or bottom edge, and its the 3rd icon. zoom to selected.
this stays there now and ready for quick use.

Thanks everyone for the advice ,i should of added that i want to be able to zoom to selected ..by default using the mouse wheel
i am aware of the option of going through the toolbar drop down menu
but wondered if it was possible to customize settings so that i need only to ..spin the wheel when selected
    is that possible?
