Your views and opinions on windows XP or VISTA please?
Posted by Robert Scullion on August 6, 2008 at 3:30 pmIs it still the case that some people are having probs with windows vista, drivers etc?
I am looking to upgrade the computer, recently bought a Summa D120 E plotter and someone advised to go for XP as there are some probs withthe drivers
Amy advise appreciated
Thanks
Bob

XP Pro here………..my daughters new laptop came with Vista which I have to say looks very nice…….but it needs loads of ram just to run at a reasonable speed.

Just got a new quad core desktop to run Corel and adobe and then send all my files to the other desktop running xp pro best of both worlds. This way I can carry on designing and the rip is left on its own.
oh and the quad core is running vista 64 bit all installed ok and no problems, oh the speed using corel for print files its a dream

Oddly enough I use XP for work and Vista at home. Vista really has had bad press but its not that bad, only reason im XP at work is because alot of my software still isnt Vista compatible.

Thanks for the replies guys. Not being that computer literate, am I better to have one custom made with xp installed as all the high street stores and the likes of dell all seem to go with vista as standard ?
Thanks again

I got a special build from here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/index.php
You get what you want, not what a big store wants to sell you.
XP Pro no problem.
BTW, Dell also do XP systems still.

I just got a new computer there with vista installed but i’ve not touched it yet but wondering if it will run my graphtec cutter and my versacamm without much trouble….. also adobe and corel ?
I was thinking of downgrading it but then i’d have to either pay for another copy of windows (xp) or use a dodgy copy that will drive me nuts from time to time with software updates 😮

Vista works fine with Graphtec cutters, adobe and Corel X3. Dont know about a Versacamm though.

Cheers Paul, anyone else got a input on this?

Both os will serve you well but for the record Corel X3 with SP2 is Vista certified and X4 was written for Vista.
