Your first van?
Posted by John Thomson on September 4, 2008 at 10:45 pmHaving read Paul Humbles post re his super clean mini pick up……..it got me wondering……what was your first van?
Mine was a mini van, 1980, white, standard wheels painted white, thick rimed steering wheel ( from the scrapyard!), fitted with a stereo cassete player 😀 ………..hand lettered signwriting, with mirrored vinyl back windows.
so small inside that my German Shepherd could not stand up straight in the back :lol1:
Wish I still had it!

Hector the mini van was my first 4 wheels, when i was 17, it cost £30 and that was because it had 4 new tyres and new battery. so guess the rest
my garage owner boss taught me to weld new inner and outer sills etc.
as i think back what a load of fun we had with it.must admit i could fancy a mini as a fun car today.
later minis ive owned are a 1125 engined lowered etc, and a mini marcos 1275 S

Mine was also a mini van. Reg. no. NSY285. I paid £20 for it and ran it for a year before scrapping it. I should have kept the reg. no. but never realised it had value at the time. This was about 1976.

My first Van was a kombi dual cab 2ltr….. My first car was a 1978 VW Golf. Dad bought me it new as payment for working in the family business and not getting a real wage.
I’d give anything to have my Kombi back. It was a sweet vehicle, that I learned to drive in. We used it in our Cleaning business. My first date was with a girl I had a huge crush on…. a cockroach walked across her knee on the way to the dinner..
The screams and abuse were something to behold. She didn’t say much and held up rather well though. Never went out with me after that though. … 🙄

I Never needed a van tll about 8 years ago, but my first two cars were these (not the actual pics though) they cost £5 each, I think I had the bond first, and got fined for pushing it home after I bought it, even though it ran perfectly, it wasnt taxed so I thought it was OK to push it.
My mate also had a Bond, and decide to pimp it by changing the the 200cc engine for I think, a six fifty Nnorton, it was quite hilarious when he tried to burn off another car at the lights, the engine and front wheel to which it was mounted, broke loose and set off up the road on its own!sorry foe being a bit off topic

my first van was was about 1995/96, up til then i used to rent transits to get to the drag strip loaded with new and used American chrysler/Dodge/Plumouth drag race and car parts, the transits were too gutless though, especially if i was towing too, so i bought one of these…
a 1977 LHD dodge B300 tradesman panel van with a 5.9L V8. this one in the pic isn’t mine, mine was primer red and has standard wheels on still. when loaded up with engine blocks, transmissions, cylinder heads and 20-30+ boxes of parts, it was probably a bit lower than this van!
cracking van which i think i broke for parts and made more than i paid for it in the end!

My dad started his car/bike sales career selling Messerschmitt’s. He has some very fond memories of those days

1st mini van when i was 17 it used to carry a drum kit about and a load more. 40 years ago don’t time fly.
used to drive my mates Messerschmitt and to think that cars now are just coming out with sequential gear boxes as if its new.
