  • Your choice of Banner material??

Posted by James Boden on July 21, 2016 at 11:31 am

I’ve been through a number of varying choices of banner material from the really cheap stuff to the more premium and have never really found one I’m completely satisfied with. The closest I’ve come is a FL coated 550 gsm from Amari Plastics which, although a bit pricey it prints well with solvent.

Obviously there a big range of material on the market but I’d be interested to know what is your favourite general purpose & blockout material?

Simply banner from Pyramid Display, 440gsm, prints well on our solvent machine, is well priced, and fit’s most customers needs. If pyramid don’t supply your area, check out Soyang who do another product.

Soyang 440 (cost effective front lit).

We buy in 10 rolls at a time at 1600mm.

A lot of suppliers are actually selling Soyang as their own budget media…just buy it direct – it’s dirt cheap.

Prints very well and hems nicely with 12.5mm x 50m solvent d/s tape from essentra tapes and brass eyelets.

Usually print a roll or two per week…sometimes a day if there’s a big order in.

:yikes: :yikes: that’s a lot of banner your shifting Dave.

Soyang is about 30mins from our office, and I know they’re cheap, but surprisingly Pyramid are cheaper still, and we get free delivery and 60days credit

We do a LOT of banners for a small outfit…on top of vinyl for menu boards, fascias, windows etc..and pop-ups. One day last week I printed three 5m x 1 m banners for the Army Medical Regiment, two 5×0.7 for another sign maker, two sides of an advertising trailer at 5×2.5m…plus a couple of 1.5×0.6. Total of 42 linear metres at 1.6m wide…15mins per metre, 4 pass..place was thick with fumes (nearly all solid black background) and no amount of windows and doors being open helped! 1.5 full rolls…gone… fairly shifts the tape and eyelets too!

    Excellent

Since 30/04/15 we’ve run 1663 linear meters of media, mainly 1370, except for roll up’s, some banners, and the occasional 1600 roll. We printed a 1.5x3m PVC banner the other day in 24mins for a charity, made a video of it to go onto twitter etc for them.

    $this->BBvideo_pass(‘$8’, ‘$4’, ‘$7’)

I started using 500gsm, but as you say was expensive, and switched to a 440gsm, not had a single complaint, and it fill’s the customers needs… we still have 1 roll of 700gsm blockout banner in for windbreakers, that’s been sat here for 4+ years 😆

I use the 440gsm from Grafityp. Good prints and great price. If you want 1600 get a 3200 roll slit into 2×1600 and there 50m rolls.

I use digital banner 510gsm+ minimum, printed 10 or 8 pass dependant on artwork output.
I do not try and be the cheapest, i leave that to the "banner punters", but i do try offer the best quality product at an affordable price on a fast turnaround basis. You have to differentiate your product, anyone can beat you on price if selling crap!

I use paper graphics 500gsm banner very good price and great material plus they also do a latex version which gives me better results than anything else I’ve ever tried. Solid black 8 pass and no banding can’t fault it and it’s a world apart from the 440gsm.
