You think you had a bad start to the day!
Posted by David Lowery on February 27, 2009 at 8:08 pmRob went out on Wednesday to vinyl two of our customers cab units.
He completed the first one by 3.30pm and decided to call it a day and start the next on the following morning.
On arrival at the works on Thursday, this is what greeted him…..the first cab that he had lovingly done only the day before!
In one of the pictures, you can clearly see the flywheel, due to the fact that the fire was so hot that the entire engine melted!
So someone had been arson about. Owner will probably only get £5k for the truck and have to spend £50k for a new one. . . . . . . plus ANOTHER set of graphics!

Just make sure they pay you for that job and not drag it out
Nightmare thou …….

Is Rob still smoking this weather or did he manage to give up?
😉 😉

thats naughty
but engines dont melt, not completley anyway, someone nicked it, then set fire to the truck (?)Peter
-
Bit too much heat getting the old graphics off Rob? 😀
-
I reckon it was the probably the owner wot did it – realised he couldn’t afford Daves bill so torched it for the insurance money 😕

But removed the engine first 😀

Well done Sherlock -lets hope "plod" shares our "hunches" and nails the villains :lol1:

Instead of Elton John this year ! I reckon we should have a mud wrestling pit with Peter & Phill going for it……Squarego…..ness……ness 😀 😀

Aluminium engine in this beast melted. Was a large lump of ali underneath! Bear in mind as well that the fuel tank was full ready for a trip to France so it was like a furness when it went up. The car park surface has been burnt away as well. I do a lot of work for this company and really feel for the owners over this. He had to lay 6 men off two weeks ago due to the "downturn" so I think plod will be having a few words with these 😕

I don’t get why former employees would do that. Don’t doubt they would but don’ understand why.
They have just put the jobs of everyone at risk, for what. They couldn’t hope to benefit from this. Just brainless I guess.

I understand about an aluminium engine, but where did the forged steel crankshaft go? That requires a lot more heat than a diesel fire can provide.
-
That’s underneath with all the bolts etc in a big glob of ali 😮
-

Yeah.
Why isn’t the crank still bolted to the clutch/gearbox input shaft? Again, substantial steel fixings.
I’ve seen a couple of burnt out Reliant Robins and all that was left was a heap of burnt plastic and molten aluminium, but the drive train was intact.
Not saying it didn’t happen, but if I was the local gendarmerie, I’d be investigating a bit deeper.
Anyway, my theories are less ridiculous than Rob’s flying saucers, so back off Fenton. 😀

(?) what, Rob thinks little green men landed, stripped the engine for spares, then took off again…….Mmmmmm he could have something 😉
-
Another conspiracy theory for Phill to investigate! What do you think Phill, little green men or Bin Laden having a go? 😉

I think what you can see in the photo looks more like the front pulley of the engine, but its hard to tell from the angle.
the flywheel would have fallen to the ground along with the crankshaft had the rest of the engine melted as they are bolted together, along with the clutch.Peter

Am I missing something here.. is not the picture of the front compartment simply that of the front pulley to which the cooling fan would have been attached… unlike cars (most) with engines in front, modern trucks (with exception of some Scanias) have centrally mounted or even mounted rear to the driver i.e. Forward control position??
Therefore engine is likely to be still in it’s original place albeit a tad melted.

If the wagon had been burning that long for the engine to melt then why have the tyres not gone too.
-
The tyre’s have gone Karl, only the steel rims left…..!

Space ships don’t use tyre’s they fly 🙄
-
The tyres on both sides are still there. What I’m saying is if the fire is hot enough to melt an engine why are the tyres still attached. Yes one of them has come off the rim but they have not completely burnt.
