"You don’t know what you don’t know" is one of my favourite sayings.

I met up with Martin a few days ago and typically (as you would expect) the discussion went on to blokey things sign related…

Anyway Martin admitted to me, that from time to time, he likes to rub his squeegee up against another squeegee to re-sharpen the blade in the manner shown on the attached photo. "I thought everyone did this" he said? 😕

Well this was a new one on me, and a very welcome tip. We all know how squeegee blades quickly wear out and start scratching paintwork, well doing this re sharpens the blade making it as good as new.

I realised then that none of us knows all there is to know about any chosen specialist subject and wondered what other hidden gems are out there?

So what tips and tricks do you have to pass on that you expect everyone would already know about but probably doesn’t ?

    I did know that.
I also know that you can rub your squeegee on a cardboard box to sharpen it.
    😀

I knew that too…but never assume as the old saying goes…

…Rob had one…don’t squat down with a scalpel/blade in your back pocket 😉

and my tip…put masking tape on the back of your metal rulers to make them grip on van paintwork (also stops the ruler marking the paintwork)

Tip: Be careful testing out tips from forums – A sharp squeegee can be dangerous!

Customer phrases that should start alarm bells ringing:-

"If this goes well there will be lots more"

"I prefer to use local businesses"

"The other sign company let me down"

Did you know that 2 pack superglue products like "Mitrefix" stick acrylic letters directly to Dibond panels? Dead handy for the edges of built ups – although I always put a bead of tensol round too (belt & braces!)

My most useful bit of equipment, used all the time when fitting vinyls to vehicles – an old-fashioned dressmakers tape measure. Doesn’t scratch, it bends round curves, and can be held in place with a magnet whilst moving vinyls to the correct level. Invaluable!

I’ve got a 610mm metal straight edge with 2 runs of mag tape on one side for cutting on the side of vehicles. Works a treat!

We print our own 1m rulers and stick them to magnetic sheet. Basically a home-made ‘sticky-metre’.

:lol1: I’m guessing its more of a gel so lubricates longer.
i prefer a wet glove than finger for same reasons but i am prone to wetting my fingers and running them down the nylon edge of my squeegee to reduce friction on points. so the gel would work work well for that. 😀
