    Hi guys,

I recently bought a pack of Inkjet dark transfer paper from Xpres. Now apparently you are able to use a print+cut method and transfer the design onto thermal application tape. Here’s the problem, everything seems fine until i place the transfer on the tape ( I decided to use the tape from Grafityp), i have squeegeed the living daylights out of design but it’s got no intention of coming away from the carrier sheet.

I hope someone can please enlighten me on this as I’d like to get a bit more adventurous with my designs and not just stick to simple shapes.

    Thanks in advance.

I’ve done the same thing as you, the thermal tape from grafityp does work but not on that particular product from xpres. I’ve used the tape on the print & cut material from merlin and it works well, you can use the tape several times before it loses it tack.

Contact xpress, as there is a known problem with inkjet dark, they’ve had a bad batch, it curls off the paper and the ink lifts when you remove the trasfer paper, I sent a log of 25mtrs back last week with this fault

Oh right!! it’s nice how they are happy to take my £120 and still send me a pack when they know full well there are issues!

I’ll be on the blower asap.

    Thanks for that.

The stuff from merlin has a different feel to it, it’s got more of a vinyl feel to it rather than the soft silky feel of the ink jet dark from xpres.

This is their website, i’ve just had a look for the product and i cannot see it, last time i had it from them i had 10 metres at 500mm wide. Give them a ring?!?

Thinking about this, won’t the grafityp material do the trick?
    Never tried it myself.

    Hi,

Thanks for the merlin info! I bought a roll of the grafityp tape but it did not work, i think maybe the xpres paper is maybe too thick for normal application tape.

Its so sticky you would need araldite to lift that stuff, its also so thick it feels like its been painted on with gloss and a 4" brush.
I cant stand the stuff, I would try whats been suggested above.

I bought some printable material from Grafityp and tried it with their heat application tape, it does work really well.
Merlin have finished stocking their material due to poor colour apparently.
