    Hi All,

I’ve tried to look back for any earlier posts but with little luck.
Most posts re. Corel X5 are obviously quite old and I only upgraded to Corel X5 when I needed a new computer running Windows 10 about 6 years ago.

The problem I’ve had since the start was the “Not responding”, which would often clear itself given time.
However, it happened again today and even after some considerable time, it didn’t, which meant of course that I lost quite a lot of work.
Yes, I appreciate I should be saving every few minutes but somehow I seem to get so engrossed and forget.
So second question. Is there any kind of autosave in Corel X5 that can be tweaked to save every few minutes?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Harry

I have never used Corel, so I can’t advise on the software itself.
    However…

The software itself should be able to perform whatever task you are giving it.
Therefore, I would maybe look at the computer itself. It may just be that your computer needs more RAM memory to perform the task you are giving it within the software.
When working on artwork and similar, it is easy to create massive files without realising it. the more you add or work with, the more the computer itself is trying to handle.
If like you say, the computer appears to stall and the egg timer is spinning etc. then eventually, clears and the task is performed. OR, it continues to stall and eventually crashes, it could just be that it is struggling to cope and needs more RAM memory.
If you know of any local computer shops or even a PC world type place. I would take the computer “terminal only” in and ask them to have a look at the PC. Just tell them it’s slow and underperforming when using your graphics software.
They may say your graphics card being upgraded will help, but at least the RAM should be I think.

I am far from any sort of expert on computers. but some simple tweaks in the computers memory etc really does make all the difference.

Thanks Robert, I appreciate your thoughts and have looked at the RAM which appears to be 8Gb’s. Which from trawling Google seems to be more than enough, with the suggestion that 2Gb’s will suffice. As for the graphics card, that seems to be more difficult to assess as Google gives too many makes/options to allow an easy comparison. It’s an ‘Intel (R) UHD Graphics 630’, if that means anything ? It’s certainly something I’ll mention to our ‘computer wizkid’ who looks after our computers.

Thanks again for the pointers. Anybody any thoughts on “Autosave” adjustments on X5 ?

    X5 is now 13years old.

Your RAM will be fine, and I don’t think X5 made use of hardware graphics.

X5 was optimised for Win7 – your using Win10 so it will not run smooth.

Thanks Colin, I’ll stop worrying now. I don’t mind if there’s nothing I can do if the only alternative is a sizeable outlay. I don’t do enough now to warrant upgrading. It’s only really a hobby now.

Have a go with the free trial from Affinity, if you like it, the purchase price is very low.
