  • wrapping the ‘Cuda ???

Posted by Hugh Potter on July 9, 2005 at 9:54 pm

i’m happy with the colour but would like to just show up with a ‘fresh’ car, i’m unsure what colour to go when i get the car back up and out for next, or possibly later this year, if i wrap it i could always change at a later date, not to mention gaining some experience,

how does a fully wrapped vehicle stand the test of time, is the vinyl long life or shorter term ?

i know the vinyls are usually special films, but what is the life expectancy and durability against everyday road traffic film etc ??? (not that my car sees much more than a few race meetings and about 500 miles a year !!

i looked over a few of the older ‘some of your work’ threads last night, and the ferarri wrap really got me thinking !! (not that i’m keen on red toy cars mind !)

also, what kinda money would it cost (materials) to wrap a car 16ft x 6ft+ wide ?

sorry if this has been mentioned before, but i just love the idea in theory, is it as good in practice ?

    thanks

Drag on, any cast material (oracal 751c) would be suitable to wrap if you just want to change the colour. It should last a fair while too if done properly

TNT couriers are known to wrap some of their vans here, and they last for the life of the vehicle in the fleet, usually 4 years or so.

    Cheers

    thank you Shane,

    anyone else ??

how long would it take a numpty -possibly paying someone who knew what they were doing to help… offers on a post card !! – to do a wrap ? i cant post a piccy here in this forum, but if ya wana know what it looks like then just do a google for 1971 440 ‘Cuda, car is about 16ft long,

any advice / offers of help (small fee could be paid) would be cool !!

if i were to attempt this myself, what do i have to ensure, regards the car body, before i apply, is it just the usual cleaning or nything special ?

    fanks in advance

Not that I’ve done much wrapping, Looks like it should be quite easy? the car looks fairly flat.
You need to give it a good clean, in all the hard to reach places, and away you go,
Best to get someone to help, by holding the vinyl away from the body work as you rub it down.. Oracal do an on line demo video ( i thought was very good), gives a good idea of what needs doing… The vinyl used when i help another member, was very good and easy to use, with the help of a heat gun, this takes out the wrinkels and stuff.

I would say about two days work, just try and see how you get on

    Drag On,

Imagine the car per panel and not the whole deal. If you break it down to panels in your mind, it is not as daunting.

I’d give it a go if I were you. Certainly you’d get the gist after a few doors. It is not that hard really.

Take one panel at a time, and you’ll have it done in no time. First time round, 2 days should kill it.

Shane, it’s only got two doors, will i need to fit more to get used to dong them, LOL !!!! i know what ya mean tho ! thanks,

Simon, thanks for mentioning the link, i’ll download the vid when i get over to the lasses tonight, stuck on dial up here 🙁

ps, here’s a link that should show the actual car, she’s been known as ‘pinkie’ for about 10 years, just getting a bit bored and fancy changing the colour, guess i’ll also have to make sure the 11 yr old paint is sound on all the bottom edges etc !! http://www.mopartalk.co.uk/mopartalk/viewtopic.php?t=3597

ok Drag-on lets get technical… if you are still failing to get a response from oracle.com then your ISP must be out of range of that site, which ISP you on?

can you get to “command prompt”? .. Press Start, then “Run..” and type “command” into the requester. Press Ok

    type
    Ping http://www.oracle.com
    It should reply with:-
    Reply from 141.146.8.66: bytes 32 time=149ms TTL=246

A reply like that means the site is reachable from your computer.

    Next try:
    tracert http://www.oracle.com
this will show you the route from your computer to Oracle in the states. Mycase is Wanadoo/Freeserve to Austin/Dallas via Level3 networks.

dave, i’ve done that, all works as you say, not that i understand a thing about it all !!!!!

simon, i trid that from the lasses place and it didnt work, have just done it from here (home) and it works,

i’m wondering if its something to do with servers, i’m on btinternet dial-up, the lass is on wanadoo boradband, but when there i just wi-fi into her set up and log into bt, maybe there lies a problem ?

i’m gonna see if it’ll download from here, though it will take too long ! if it will, i’ll try her pc at her place and see if i can download it to disc !!

ok, just tried it here now, it opens up no problem, i’ll see f i can save it at the lasses over the weekend !

    thanks all !

Alternatively, ring up the local Oracle rep / company and ask them to post you out a copy. 😎

That is what I would do too, got mine before the last sign show. Just made a call, and had it in the mail next day.

Drag On, Spybot is excellent, but I know of some clients running Nortons that have issues with the firewall when it comes to downloading videos etc, May be worth looking at 😕

ah… so you wifi into the Wanadoo and you have a BT. Think you maybe either got some spyware or your pc is looking for certain links in the wrong direction.
The Ping and Tracert tests was to see if you was blocked. You are not so it is IE related.
