Wrapping over seams
Hi All
Wondered what methods people used when wrapping over the seams on a van. I.E. the vertical rubber join between panels. Not sure what’s the best way.
Is it to split one side or the other, or both? Or to not cover the seam at all?
Which can be a pain if you have a dark design on a white van.What’s the general opinion?
I’ve done a few and have just wrapped straight over, then made sure that it was post-heated properly as ever. Had one fail recently though so wanted to
rethink my methods.Cheers Guys

Shouldn’t be a problem just ignoring them and covering straight over them, if your using a good quality vinyl and post heating properly. If you have had one failure and only one then it might be down to the cleanliness of the vehicle before you started. If you didn’t wipe it down properly & there was still wax or silicone polish on the strip.
When I first started I was unsure about them and this site didn’t exist so I use to fit over them, post heat but then run the scalpel down each side so if the vinyl came off it only fell off the strip but I haven’t done that for a long time now.

If vinyl touches rubber it gets cut. Rubber usually implies the panels move or there is movement. Vinyl doesn’t like movement. It will crack over time if there is sufficient movement.
We usually leave it behind and explain to the customer vinyl doesn’t stick to rubber but we leave it on there for aesthetics and if it becomes a problem simple peel it off without affecting the vinyl applied to the paint.

My sentiments too. The rubber strip is a flexible joint for either panel to move slightly. So in 0 degress when the vinyl freezes the body of the van will move and the vinyl will crack. I always cut carefully and remove.
