  • wrapping over sealant joint or not

I’m doing a colour change on a LWB Sprinter next week and I am not sure what to do.
I have done many colour changes and printed wraps and normally trim out the sealant join but this van is white and I am wrapping it matt dark grey, I am concerned about trimming out because of the contrast in colours and seeing the white of the van against the black selant and the white paint, any advice please?

if the sealant is painted over, I always go over it. I’ve not been in a position as you are now so can’t comment further I’m afraid!

I would go up to the joint and over to just Past the centre then come from the other way doing the same, I try to feed into these as it’s asking for a fail

Can you not just use an adhesive promoter on it, should work as far as I’m concerned

before you start the job take a cutting of the grey you will use, an A4 type size and apply over the join you have your concerns with and cut it away.

repeat below it and do not cut away.

show the customer both and tell them best practice is to remove but may be OK.
let them choose/tell you what to do.

as long as the rubber is very clean and you back heat it to promote adhesion. the finish is often OK with a cast vinyl.
i would say most fails are when using a calendared film for cut vinyl graphics and the like. but if its 100% coverage and you make sure you bond it correct i may be fine. but give the customer the choice because as you will know, you could do the whole thing and they flip and complain and gives them leverage not to pay full amount.

Thanks guys, I think I’m going to clean the hell out of the sealant then paint on some clear nail varnish and give it a test.

    Thanks again
