• Wrapping guarantees

Would any of you vehicle wrappers guarantee a full van wrap for 5 years? A mate of mine is having his van wrapped and then laminated a couple of days later and has been told the job would only be guaranteed for 3 years with no laminate but for 5 years with. Bearing in mind that Robert Lambie posted a while back about possible separation of layers in cavities due to the glue of the laminate basically only sticking to the ink on the base wrapping vinyl, I would have thoght this 5 year guarantee is a little bit brave. Still what do I know, I’ve never tried it.

    Any thoughts?

    What exactly are they guaranteeing?.

Adhesive failing or print fading or both?.

Sounds very brave to me. I`ve seen some truck cabs wraps done less than a year ago that are adhesive failing.

This is also the first time i`ve heard of a wrap then a laminate a few days apart.

It sounds a bit odd doesn’t it? Sounds like they would guarantee the van not to break down, not be in an accident, not run out of fuel, not to be caught speeding etc etc just to get the job. They want the money up front in full before the job is done as well. I would imagine in all seriousness that they would be guaranteeing the adhesion but not any fading.

i thought the print was laminated after the inks were dry
cant see it being very cost effective doing the job twice !!!

Seems a bit odd to me as well. never heard of laminating after fitting, perhaps its a new process though? How much are they asking for the job, with and without 5year guarantee?

Ok, I may have got that wrong, the way it was explained to me made me think that the laminate would be fitted after the wrap vinyl but now I come to think of it the printed vinyl is probably being left to ‘dry/set’ for a couple of days, then laminated, then the whole thing fitted. Told you I knew nothing about the task. I’d still like to know if 5 years is a standard(ish) guarantee.

Most wraps themselves arent guarenteed for that long, but the ink fade etc are covered by certain warranties such as ICS and ICS Fleet if you are using Avery materials.

As for the laminate being put on afterwards…I have never heard of that with the exception of paint protection. Hard laminates are put on with machines because they will apply equal pressure on the laminate over the prints so no lifting occurs. You need to let prints sit for a minimum of 24 hours if you are printing using a solvent based ink because if you do not allow enough "outgas" time you are just going to trap the solvent vapors under the laminate and that = disaster. Just about all the work we do for fleet applications are done with a SEAL liquid laminator though and car wraps with a Avery DOL 1000 hard overlaminate.
