  • would another warranty from graphtec be advisable?

    hi

My warranty is about to expire on my ce3000mk2-60 (how time flies).

Ive had a letter from Graphtec offering a service contract.

Can I assume that it would be a good idea to take the deal?

I would assume the answer would have to be yes.

Some years back whilst operating an older graphtec machine, my employees decided to pour water into the blade carrier. The machine had not been covered by any warranty for years and probably, if they hadn’t had that little ‘accident’, would probably not have needed looking at for years to come.

But (there is always a but). Graphtec wouldn’t look at it unless we had a valid service contract. thinkthe ‘fix’ was charged for also though as the damage occured outside of a contract.

Remember this was some years ago, some of the facts may be a little out, and graphtec may have changed things since then.

So all that typing was pretty much a waste of time then. Hey ho.

    I would still get one.

    Cheers Gareth

The machine has been great but recently when starting there has been a bit of a rattle coming from the fan (I think).

What machine are you using just now?

editted to add ‘I think it is basically the same machine but with a new model no.’

    Hi James

I too had this letter and was in the same situation a while back. I think the warranty was around the £2/300 mark per year – is that right? I figured that was a little to much and decided to risk it and if it did go wrong shell out fixing it at the time of it going wrong – that or buy a new or second hand one. Another sign maker near me has his for a few years now without any problems so I didn’t bother in the end. Saying this mine will probably pack up later today! Way I see it is if it goes on for 4 years I could buy a new one with the money saved on the warranty.

    Aha" Thinks have changed!

I was told by my employers that the machine we were using was around £2750 to buy new and the service contract (I believe) was £500. So ptrobably worthwhile in that instance but maybe not nowadays.

Sorry, I change my answer. In your case James, not so sure it is a yes.

Can’t you inform them about the rattle now, as it is still in warranty (and ask them if they will give it the ‘once over’)?

    Hi Russell

Warranty expired yesterday Gareth, just checked.

£340.75 including vat seams alot but peace of mind is never cheap is it.

How much does it cost for a call out? and whats likely to need repairing first?

    Hmmm decisions.

sorry don’t know call out charges or whats likely to go first only ever had to replace cutting strip. – but can’t imagine call out would be more than £300-400.

quick reply… havent read the thread…

graphtecs are VERY reliable machines. we never extended our warranties and if there was a little niggle and i wanted it checked i called kentech – ken mcnight midlothian. see suppliers index for contact info…
the downside of it is for graphtec as their machines are extremely reliable. so i never bothered with warrenty entension…
we recently bought two new ones… 2 month ago i think!

i dont know… i guess it depends on how much the warranty is for peace of mind.

James maybe only you know the answer if it’s worth it or not? 😮 😀

Personally I wouldn’t as a new CE5000 is only £995 with 2 years warranty. So even if your machine only lasted another year, it would be cheaper in the long run to replace it with new. And if it doesn’t last another year I would be very very surprised. In fact it will probably last much much longer. We still have customers with 15 year old machines that are in daily use. 😮
