  • Workplace is safer than I thought? Activisol & Colorific

Most people on here using Activasol inks must be aware that there is now a new ink available only it is not new it is simply Activasol re branded and given a serious price cut, great news i thought and ordered a couple of bottles from perfect colours.

The ink turned up the next day and strangely does not have as many warnings on the bottle as Activasol leading me to think that this ink may be different, i down load the data sheets for Activasol and the Colorific Elite and discover that they are nothing like the same.

I spoke to Joanne at Perfect colors and she in turn spoke to Colorific and it turns out that B&P have "doctored" there data sheet making it appear much worse that it really is, i can not understand the logic behind this.

It was suggested that i use a pdf editor and delete the Uniform logo from the top of the Activasol data sheet that i had downloaded from B&P and underneath i would find the Sericol ink name, it is true B&P are selling Activasol using a Sericol screen ink data sheet.

I normally support B&P on here as they do give good service but i can not except such bad behavior as this, I understand they are with lots of problems at the moment and looking at things like this it is only them selves they have to blame.

    Regards

the inks are on special offer at the moment.
£80 for 2 litres of ink. sorry i don’t have prices on carts etc
have to say this is probably the best deal i have seen on inks ever!
yes the special offer ends at the end of February but as an introductory offer it will be very hard to beat.

i should be hearing a bit more on this ink with regards to UKSG uniform users etc so will keep you posted.

    Brian,

Do not have Perfect Colours number to hand but it is on the toolbar, I think under printer suppliers Epson. The Person I normally deal with is Rob but the person tasked to deal with this ink called Colorific Elite is Joanne Davies and she is very helpful.

    Best regards

    Russell.

However it seems my workshop is still not safe enough, had a surprise visit from Health & Safety today stateting that my company is not registered with them and that by law it should be, I explain we have been going 9 years now but was not aware that we either should of been registered with Health & Safety or even know how we would register with health and safety, he has taken my company details and now i am registered.

Lucky me while he was here he had a look round, two problems 1st one is a step that goes across the building but is not easy to see, so is a tripping hazard. 2nd problem is he read teh ink data sheets that where on my bench and even using the Colorific version which is nowhere near as bad as the Uniform one he still says that as it states inhalation hazzard the printer needs to be run vented, idealy run in it’s own room with ventalation.

So i took a trip to Wickes and bought a vent kit 100m/m pipe and inline fan, have drilled hole in the wall and mounted the fan and pipe, tommorow when printer is quite i am going to make a 100m/m hole in the back of it so that i can fit a flange to attach the pipe to this will hopefully lower the fumes in the room.

I wasn’t aware of any legal requirements to register a business with H&S. Wouldn’t know how to do it and wouldn’t want to do it either.

Best to keep these interfering buggers at a safe distance.

I think if someone turned up at my place unannounced claiming to be H&S and wanting to inspect – I would refuse him entry and turf him out.

Unfortunatly Phil he turned up with supporting paperwork and id card, so no way i want to argue with someone who has the power to close you down, just take his comments on board and do the jobs he wants done as i am sure if he put his mind to it he could find more problems.

I guess times are quite for even services like this and suddenly people are trying to look busy so as to save there jobs.

On the bright side Activasol / Colorific is a health hazzard so better out than in.

have to agree… better covering yourself. when we bought our grenadier 4.5 years ago now we had the fans installed. one bringing air into the room, the other out. they aren’t attached to the machine or anything. just a few feet above the machine on the wall. the one pulling fresh air in is on the other side of the room. the fans aren’t expensive and an afternoon cutting a couple of holes and placing them is all thats required. they are actually good to have in the warm days during summer…

from what i have heard over the years, is that every single solvent ink on the market has similar health risks. even the ones that smell nice or don’t smell as much, are still equally as dangerous as those that do. so if health and safety do pop in i think they will stipulate some sort of ventilation regardless to what type of printer/ink you are running..

You could always get a wee budgie and stick It in a cage over the printer. 😀 worked for the minors? 😕

    Better still – use a H&S inspector – why waste a budgie 😕
