• Workflow using CMYKOG

Posted by Niklas on June 7, 2005 at 11:26 am

I’ve recently converted my Mimaki JV-3S to CMYKOG and I have some questions about how to adress the O&G colors.

    My workflow today:

    CorelDraw 12
Text and vector graphics(CMYK). Raster images (RGB) imported to Corel OPI linked and exported to EPS for import to RIP.

    Posterprint 10
No CMYK input profile is used. This is just to be able to set the CMYK values in Corel and print the same values in posterprint. I have a printed CMYK chart to pick the colors I want.

Keep embedded profile for RBG. (I´m using the adobe rbg colorspace/profile)

When using the tune command on the OPI linked RBG image the color info shows the use of O&G. Doing the same with the vector CMYK part of course does not show the use O&G.

If I assign a input CMYK profile the CMYK colors are converted to LAB and thus using O&G.

Should I use a input CMYK profile with the biggest possible gamut and then print a new CMYK chart to pick colors from?

How do I know what input CMYK profile to use? Or maby there is a easier way to do this?

Please advice what workflow to use?

    Kind Regards,
    Niklas

Not much help but you could do a net search on hexachrome workflow.

hi, i use shiraz and jv3-160s CYMKltCltM and jv3-75sp CMYK. Is CYMKOG mimaki ink?

I know it’s possible to use different inks as long as the profiles are heavily adjusted to accept the new range of colours (like the recent white ink changes)

The other thing, what WAS your last setup, were you CYML or 6 colour hifi? Are the cartridges reading okay or is this a bulk ink setup?

    CMYKOG is Hexachrome

    O Orange
    G Green

    Hexachrome offers a wider Gamut

    Niklas,
I use a hexachrome inkset thru Rolands Colorchoice.
I have RGB input as Adobe 1998, and CMYK as US webcoated SWOP.
I find the cmyk vector colours don’t seem to use the OG inks, especially if the vector rendering intent is set to spot colour.
I work around this by setting vector intent to saturation, and alter my oranges and green colours in my (Signlab) palette to RGB.
So my default palette is a mix of CMYK blues, reds, greys etc, with RGB oranges, greens etc.

You should print both RGB and CMYK vector colour charts, and find the best colours from them to make your own palette with.
