spurred on by kevins scan, thought I would have a go in Corel (not my strongest software choice) but after a study of some internet videos this is the result, file compressed to post here but im well pleased with the outcome.

that looks good John, but it doesn’t look like its a cutable vector, with so much fine detail, would it not have been better just to scan and print the original?

peter in a way yes but also I want the option of scaling it up for the panel of a sprinter so only a couple of feet square as a background image – so at least as a vector i can readily change the size and print (no need for it to be cutable) just want to avoid pixellation – hence richs solution would work also but I dont have signlab.
