Got an awkward one, I have a digital image of a watercolour and i need it to go on the inside of a window. It will be done as transparent but how will I back it in white? The edges are not solid more of a feathered effect.

Does anyone have any ideas or know of a different method.

    Would be kindly appreciated

    Thanks … J

would it definitely need backing white?…….I would try double printing it & see what it looks like…….It’s such a subtle image you might get away with it

What if you did an oval of etched glass behind it?
(just a suggestion, I know nothing about prints)

i would say jill has just about got the answer to this…
it would definitely need white behind it to enhance the colour. i know dense coverage of the prints onto clear would certainly help matters but still wouldn’t be enough. if white is a no-go option… ide try printing directly onto etch/frosted vinyl and feather the image out at the ends… as has been said also… maybe an oval if not a halo contour cut of the image.
i forget who was advertising it, but there is now a digital etch vinyl for printing available…

thanks for the advice. I originally had a white oval to back the image but the customer said he just wanted the flowers. How does this printed etch work? because you would have to print on the adhesive side?

    Thanks

sorry this is a bit late but have only just seen the post
could you not print the image onto clear vinyl on a print and cut machine, remove and backup in white then contour cut the image.
this is probably how I would tackle it.

What about the edge of the image, where it feathers out like a transparent, wouldn’t you see white edges. or do you mean make the white backing smaller?

we have had some success printing onto frosted etch for this type of work. Its not perfect, not as good as white but much better than double printing.
If it was on an oval then you wouldnt get a hard edge like the white.

as nnsg has asked…how does this printed etched work??…surely if you are reverse printing the colours would look muted from the viewed side

A little muted – but with light shining through it it can give a very acceptable end result.

How about reverse print onto clear and then overlaying with etch vinyl. As Rob says, not as good as white, but might be a suitable compromise.

There’s some great help there, and that’s genius about the etch, will give it a go. When the job’s done will post it up.

    Cheers J
