Why do you need to relace it Hugh it looks fine in the picture ,
if you are replacing you should have no problem removing it 🙄Lynn
-
hi lynn, due to having to use two pieces on the left side window, i’m replacing them for one complete piece of etch, you cant really see the join unless you look for it, but i want it to be perfect ! there’s also a few marks and stuff on the adhesive side where it had partilly stuck and i lifted it again, had to do that or junk it ! so made good the best i could, shouldnt take long to replace, just a pain as i’ll have to order another £30 of materials incl delivery, for the sake of a 1200 wide window !
-
Hugh, if you are paying 30 lid for a metre of 1220 even with delivery, then its about time you joined uksg,
What was the problem with the staging? couldn’t you just have stood on a box or crate?
Or was it that you coudnt stand on it, and had to reach over?
Peter -
is that line a join hugh?
overall i think you have done really well mate. like lynn says, if its wet applied it will come off no problem.

thanks Rob !
Peter, LG etch to me in 1200 wide is around £7 a metre, i want to order double just in case, plus it’ll give me a tad for a tiny job i been pestered into doing), so double 1.2m is 2.4m have to buy 3m, £21+ vat, plus £8 delivery ! £30 !
the stage is a problem because A, it’s a bit flimsy, and B, i cant use a crate cos the top of the window is 8ft from the stage to the top of the window, those windows are 900 deep ! so it’s a ladder or nowt, but i need to keep the feet nearish to the edges to stay near the supports under them, i found that a scrunched bit of duct tape (or duck tape if ya prefer) under the ladder feet stopped it slipping !
reach over ? a bit, even on the ladder cos i couldnt get far enough in to be central to the glass !
HUGHedit… DOH !! window is 1160 wide by 900 deep, i’ll only need two metres ! yay !

Ok Hugh, figures add up.
I dont always look at things like I used to, I realise when you are starting out small quantities are an issue, cos of the delivery, Puts a few quid onto the job,. But trust me, as you get more experienced, and can affford a bit more stock, you will not worry if you cock it up. Always buy a lot more than you need,, It actually gives you piece of mind when fitting, and you will find that things go better if you dont have to worry about wreckin’ the last piece of vinyl! -
you’re not wrong there Pete ! i almost always buy in double what i need, i built a reasonable stock that way,
on this job i allowed up to 2hrs on the job, and £30 for materials, had the 610 price in my head cos i never normaly buy 1200 and quoted with that in mind, it was nearer £50 for materials i think, I charged £120 as per original quote, so i’m not losing, but i’ll ultimately have done the job for about £20 !
oh well, won’t make this mistake again !
-
well, as per the other thread, job jobbed, old vinyl removed ok, damned hard work on a 400 wide by 900 deep section, so i cut the rest into 100mm strips, came off a treat ! cleaned glass again and applied the new with no bother what so ever !
the line i mentioned was obviously just a water mark, has dried a treat !
thanks for all the advice given, muchly appreciated !

good to hear all is well now mate. one thing for sure is that you will use this experience for future jobs/work.
thanks for letting us in on it all… 😀
