The first time I had fitted window etch, did these about 6 weeks ago.

Took a while to do this one I got a bit carried away.
All they wanted was the Eddystone lighthouse in window etch, but as usual I went overboard and spent more time than I should have, especially seeing as it was a favour for a mate.
I just thought I would do an extra nice job in the hope of more work in future.
Customer loved it and took some business cards so hopefully they will be back.
Incidentally they wanted them on there so people wouldnt walk into the windows, never had that problem myself, as large double sliding door frames always seem indicate 10 square feet glass windows. :lol1:

I think in all about 5 hours weeding, I kept going back to it after doing some other jobs, have a break and then do a bit more.
It was worth it in the end though I was very happy with it

How long did that take to cut? i don’t think my cutter would have been able to handle that lot 😀

It took about 20 minutes or so for each one, which wasn’t bad at all considering the intricacy of the design.

LOL did you see the bit where I said "for a mate"
Unfortunately not paid well, but he owns a double glazing firm and I have the possibility of some more work from him with front doors etc,
I’m rather embarrassed to say I got £50 (he made up a price on the spot to the pub landlord, and then asked me to
"knock up a couple of lighthouses"
normally I would have made 2 simple designs but considering where this was going and the amount of people that would see them I figured I would go the whole hog and do a nice job even if it was for fifty quid, I told him the normal price would have been £200 so he was a bit taken aback at how long I spent on them but It will be worth it in the end.
Ive made up for it by a country mile on the next job I’m doing though :lol1:

Its in one of the little villages along the coast from me called Downderry,
The pub is lovely its called "the inn on the shore" and the view from that veranda is breathtaking, you can see all the way to Plymouth to the east and all the way to the Lizard to the west, its a great setting for consuming copious amounts of alcohol and falling 40 feet onto the beach.

    HI Steve,

Looe is one of my mrs fave places in the world !

i love the job, and can well appreciate the effort in weeding that design, doing it in etch must’ve been a nightmare, it’s not the nicest material to weed at the best of times !

Well thanks all for the nice comments, its encouraging when people that have been doing it as long as you all have like my work.
will post more as I do it, I have the Decker pub in Looe to do next week so will stick them up here when done
Looe seems to be a pretty popular place so when one of you is down next look me up for a beer! how often do you make it down here Hugh?
Peter M see you Tuesday :lol1:

    hi Steve,

i’ve never been as far down as looe (well not in 20yrs !), devon (torquay / newton abbot) is usually my last stop, the mrs lived in devon for a number of years though, and used to visit friends who lived in looe, just recall her telling me it was her fave place in cornwall,

i’ll be going down to redruth for a week in oct (no kids… yippeee !), just me, the mrs, and a pile of books and sea fishing gear in the car ! if we’re passing i’ll get in touch before we leave !

Well if you like sea fishing Looe has the shark angling club of Great Britain HQ here, in fact I was going to drop a letter in to them to let them know their signs need refurbishing :lol1:
Looe is full of pubs, fishing boats, and restaurants, so plenty for most people here!
Oh yes and also full of Brummies like me, but Ive been here almost 30 years since 1978 so I get classed as local now

Oh he definitely appreciated it, he loved it.
It wasn’t too much about the money on this one I wanted to do a nice job just to push the boundaries of my cutter and myself really, and also to show how nice window etch can look.
I did some of the England world cup squad on my Van last year in the same style I’ll post that when I have time, LOL only did it for the world cup and took it off again after we lost.

That’s the problem, all the small pieces will rub off immediately.

(Hope you don’t have to do it again)

strange that Derek did a window in etch at my hair dressers 3ish years ago lots and lots of small bits they are all still there 🙄 told them to leave is a lone for at least a week, so why would all the small bits disappear (?) (?)

i doubt it… once they are on a while with sun shining on them the etch will have a nice bite on the glass. even if some tiny bits do come away it will never be noticed as it will only be the smallest of bits.
ive done etch work with allot of detail in the past and never had any issues ever…

very nice work steve, you should be proud of that mate, especially for it being your first ever go at etch work.

thanks for taking the time to post the series of pictures too… great stuff. 😉

One of my concerns was when they cleaned the windows, so I left the designs for about 10 minutes and went over them lightly with a felt squeegee, at about roughly the pressure that you would with a window squeegee to see if anything came off, nothing did.
I also had 2 small sheets of various parts of the design to replace with if necessary but didn’t need them and haven’t to date.
I’m sure come the summer months they will get picked at by drunken customers, but next time they wont be 50 quid ha ha
    Thanks for the comments all
